Consolidated Kansas

On the news they said we had a half inch of ice before all the rain melted it. There was supposed to be no more rain today or the rest of the week but we were still getting some this morning. I feel like a prisoner. No sunshine makes me a grouchy girl.

Danz we understand that gotta have sunshine which don't hate us is why Heather and I with our DHs are heading to Galveston,Tx Feb 8th and cruising to the Caribbean on Sun 12 thankfully my vets daughter is going to come live at our house and take care of hopefully a brooder box of babies for me. Heathers brother is taking care of hers.

Lucky you. I used to do things like that before I bought the farm. No pun intended!

I had an appointment in Emporia today. I had to get all my feeding and watering done beforehand. Of course it was dark before I got home.
I also got confirmation and paid for my welding class. Just what I need. Something else to use some more of my time! I think this will be an awesome thing to know though. I won't have to wait forever for some quick little welding job from DH if I can do it myself.

Danz,
Thanks welk just candled everyone and didn't see any kind of development in the turkeys eggs which have been in the incubator for 12 days. However 32 of my chicken eggs are developing like crazy and they were just put in last Fri so clearly the incubator is working but my Toms are just shooting blanks or the cold stopped the fertility before I could get them. Going to break open a couple just to make sure. But hey if thing continue to go well may have like 30 little chickies to cuddle and spoil.

Let us know how the chick hatch goes. Have you been to the Caribbean before? We have been on cruises there several times, if you have not been you will just be awed by the color of the water. It's great to go somewhere warm this time of year but really really hard to come back to the cold, that's the only bad part. We're thinking of taking our granddaughter on a cruise in the Caribbean next year before she gets too old to want to go with us, that is if her mom will let her go.

I just happened to be standing by a window and saw something streak by out of the corner of my eye. Simultaneously with a bird making a noise I'd never heard before. I decided to go out and investigate and heard my rooster sound an alarm and saw all my girls go running for cover. Upon looking up, I saw a HUGE hawk fly off. I followed it around the house and saw it perched in the tops of one of our tallest trees. It didn't like my presence and so it flew back to the other side of the yard. I followed it again and it flew away. I then went and put all my birds in their pens and counted them. The only one I'm missing is one that disappeared last week so I'm guessing this hawk is the culprit for that birds disappearance. I think I'll leave my birds locked up for a while. I feel bad doing so though. The pens are both in the shade and it is an ice rink in the runs. Better that than hawk food though.

Trish,
Yes we are scuba divers so the Caribbean is our second home though this will be the first time we have gone to Belize and Hondoras and only our second cruise though this one will be extra special as our 16 yr old son isn't going with us and we are celebrating 17 yrs married plus Valentine's Day and DH bday it will be a great time but yes coming back to the cold will suck but coming back to our babies won't

We haven't been to all of the islands, there are so many, but we've been to several. We went to St. Martin on our honeymoon & spent a week there & then have been back a couple of times on cruises. Bonaire was the place that had the best snorkeling & scuba diving we were told, we went there once. I hope you have a great time!

Time to get the gun out. We get hawks but that is the beauty of having larger birds. They can't lift them. And the dogs have learned that hawks are NOT supposed to be here and will throw a fit if one gets closer than across the road.

The best snorkeling off beach I ever did was at Cosumel. However once when we were at Bucerius, Mexico we took a catamaran out to Islas Marietas y Avistamiento de Ballenas where the water was crystal clear and the sea life only comparable to something you have seen on film. After that trip I bought an underwater camera!! I'd like to travel more but until things are easier to care for around here that isn't going to happen.
I spent the entire day cleaning, and organizing and moving chicks around. Seems when they are growing they end up outgrowing their area in a big hurry. I was going to work on the brooder area in my building but was short a plumbing part so it got postponed and I went with other options. I guess I will see how they all fared in their new spaces last night.

Trish yes I have heard the same look forward to finding out one of these days. Danz yes my hubby wants to do a Cameramen which soubds like a blast to me. We have a friend who owns a house in Cozemel and he will be there when we are and is taking us to a place that he knows of for great snorkeling as Heather and her DH aren't scuba trained yet. So all 32 eggs are looking great so hopefully we will have an awesome hatch in a couple weeks
