Sick chicken - Help would be greatly appreciated, didn't want to post it on here because the picture is kinda nasty. Thank you in advance to everyone!

On a better note, my doe (rabbit) just had her first litter of 5 baby bunnies! She is a white Holland Lop, so hopefully I'll have at least one white, but we'll see. I'll be sure to share some pics when they get a little older and cuter:) Have a great evening everyone!
I looked at the picture. Not pretty. Hopefully Danz will see your post as she is certainly one of the most expert chicken folks on the forum. I am a first year keeper, so I really can't offer much, but I don't think you'd go wrong with the epsom salt soaks. Perhaps also feed yogurt and molasses and grated turmeric and garlic mixed with a little feed in a wet mash with a squirt of nutri-drench wouldn't hurt, either. This really helped my sick brahma (nothing like your pic) recover a few months ago. good luck.

That doesn't look at all like a prolapsed vent as they suggested on the other thread. I believe she has sustained an injury to her vent and it is infected. Her chances, Unfortunately are slim at this point. The best treatment for a case like this is to use Baytril on her but it's by prescription only so a vet would need to give you some. Other options are to let it soak in warm Epsom salts as suggested but don't pick on the vent. Leave it alone. The epsom salts can help pull out some of the infection. If it were me I'd start giving her a few drops of Oregano oil by mouth at least a couple times a day. And then use triple antibiotic ointment around her vent and if you can squirt a little toward the inside where she pulses and will pull some in. I'd also clip the feathers around the vent to help her stay clean. I don't think there is probably much else that can help her at this point in the way of antibiotics than Baytril. If you can't get it, another thing that might possibly help as a last ditch effort is some pennicilin G. You can buy small bottles at a farm store in the refrigerator section. I would give her a shot of no more than like 3 ml, once a day. If she she shows improvement in a few days continue it for no less than 7 days. She will most likely need some form of probiotics while she is on the antibiotics.
In addition, keep her warm. Preferably inside or at least under a heat lamp. Chickens need heat to heal and it will help keep her from going into shock. I sure hope she pulls through.
Congrats on your bunnies.

Glad you're getting eggs again.
Well no one will ever convince me my dogs aren't worth their salt. I heard them going crazy yesterday afternoon, looked out to see them in pursuit of something, then heard a loud bang. I guess they got the hawks attention and while trying to escape it ran right into the house. My oldest pyr who has passed used to jump in the air trying to get hawks, but I hadn't seen these dogs being that focused on hawks. Mostly because they usually get quite that close. So even though they didn't make the actual kill, in reality, they did. Yay! Dogs!!

Yay for the dogs! I went out the other day to do chores early since I had to go out of town that day. When I came out the door I saw 3 hawks circling over the yard & all of my chickens were under cover. I normally don't have much of a problem with hawks here because we have a lot of cover. My pup Zander was barking at the hawks, so I was proud of him for recognizing they didn't belong here. He was in his pen again by that point but he was definitely paying attention.

Congrats on your baby bunnies! I should have some in about 3 weeks or so myself, mini lops. I hope you can get your hen feeling better.

Hello! It has been a while! I know I missed a lot. It was taking forever to catch up so I jumped to the end! Lol!
I had a predator kill my very special girl, a Basque Hen named Yellow, along with her daughter Sunshine, and my BCM, Ethyl. Betty is the only one left. It has only been a few days. Betty has gone angry broody. I think she is trying to hatch some friends. Since we lost our roo last fall, her eggs are not fertile. I want to get some Salmon Faverolles, Black Copper Marans, and maybe some Silkies, eventually. Does anyone have any idea how I can help Betty? Does anyone have any gentle breed fertile eggs I could buy to put under her? I think letting her hatch some chicks may help her to not be so lonely.
Welcome back! I don't have any of those breeds but I'm sure you could find some on the FB swaps in our area if you get on those.

I went out this morning to put my pup Zander back in his pen & he has hurt his right front leg somehow. He was limping when I took him down there. I hope he just sprained it & it will be OK. I didn't see any wounds & he can put some weight on it. It was kind of funny because the male guineas I keep out in the yard for ticks were surrounding him where he was laying by the front porch & my DH said I guess they were protecting him, ha maybe so.

I have BCM eggs. But not the others

I guess before I try this, I should check and see if it would even work! Has anyone ever exchanged eggs for chicks under a broody hen? Will a hen likely accept and raise them, or abandon them? I assume it would work ok with fertile eggs, wouldn't it? My three silkie hens once co-eggsat and co-parented 21 babies of multiple breeds, as they stole eggs from other hens! But Betty is an orp, so??? Any thoughts?

Thank you all for the advice, took some from everyone.
Harriet (my sick chicken) is doing ok today. I first cleaned around the infected area and then clipped the dirty feathers around it. I then soaked her in a warm bath with Epsom salt. I put some antibiotic on and around the infected area. I also gave her yogurt which she ate excitedly and an egg. She is in her cage with a heat lamp on her... I noticed that we have hydrogen peroxide, would that help the wound at all or should I not use it?

@Trish44 So exciting! I love mini lops, was actually debating on whether to get the Minis or Holland Lops to breed and ultimately decided on the Hollands. Good luck with your soon-coming babies!

Nope that won't work: A hen would abandon eggs once she has chicks. You'll have to wait for another hen to go broody. If you took the chicks and they are still acting broody you would probably get by with it.

Yogurt is okay as it contains cultures, but chickens don't digest milk well so don't go overboard on it.
I'm heading to Oklahoma in a bit to pick up a new pup to add to my breeding working pyrenees. Very excited. She's been out working with sheep and goats so I will have to do some training etc but I've done that before so we should be good.
I got my first 3 goose eggs of the season yesterday. Just in time for it to freeze. Of course I hatch them all myself but if they laid last night those eggs would be toast. I am so ready to hatch some baby geese.
I had a fairly large hatch of chicks yesterday. My fertility is still down somewhat but I got a lot of chicks just the same.I have some more to set as well. It's time to fire up another incubator.

Congrats on the goose eggs. Mine haven't laid yet but you know what I have going on here so I don't think they will lay right now. I hope they all get settled down so they will eventually lay.
