Welcome. Always pleased to see new people. We hope you stick around. Tell us about yourself and your chickens. We have members here with years and years of experience combined and we all love to help. Sometimes you will get more than one opinion but that is the beauty of this thread. We may vary in methods but most of us have worked through the wives tales and have done our own research and have gained a lot of experience.
What area are you in? We have people from all over the state but some do more reading than posting unless they see that someone is near them.

Thank you @chicken danz

My name is Arden - I live near Derby, KS, so just about 20 or so minutes from Wichita. We have three horses, some ducks, and six chickens (and cats.).
We have two new Jersey Giants that still have some growing to do before they are fully introduced to the rest of the flock, and four chickens we were able to get last April. I have a good idea on some of their breeds, but I'm not 100% on that. They are free range during the day, and so far have been doing really well! I've learned a lot in the past year, and am always excited and willing to learn more!

Welcome, I'm not that far away from you outside Winfield. It sounds like you have a menagerie of animals there. I raise a lot of breeds of chickens, Ancona ducks, & Sebastapol geese if you ever need any more. Danz is right, we do have a lot of people on here with varied experience so don't be afraid to ask any questions you may have. We discuss about everything here, not only chickens, but everyday life. Some of us have other animals as well as poultry. I actually lived outside of Derby for 22 years so I've very familiar with the town. It has grown so very much though since I left there. When I first moved there in 1976 there wasn't a whole lot there but it was growing when I left in 1998. I miss being there really even more since it has grown so much & there is so much there.

We have several member in your area. All around the Wichita general area.
If you want to post pictures of your chickens we can certainly identify them or attempt to. Unless they are mixed breeds then it might be a toss up.

We used to drive through Derby on the way out to Garden City from southern KS when I was a kid! I can't remember if it was Derby or Pratt, but we used to always stop at an old-fashioned drug store soda fountain for my Mom's favorite "chocolate malted"!

@Extravwhoganza , If you want to introduce the Jersey Giants and they are old enough to go outside, what I would do is put them in a cage in the coop with the other birds for a week or so. Then simply leave the cage door open and they will venture out when they feel safe. That gives the older birds a chance to get used to them so they don't get picked on. Of course you have to feed and water them separately but you do anyway, right? I've done that for years and it works well. The other method is if you let them free range to let them out with the others in the day time for a few days before showing them where the coop is. Then put them in the coop at night when they others have already gone to roost.
