Just got in from checking on the flock.
Right now I’m rotating waterers instead of breaking ice. Taking a few with fresh water out, bring a few back inside to refill and go out every couple hours with the unfrozen ones. Not fun!
( in coop) I'm glad to report my outside trash can with stock tank heater is holding its own so far, no ice. It's 1F outside wind chill -18 here.
Mine won’t come out of the coops to get food or water right now. I broke and put some inside the coops. I’ll be heading back out in an hour to check on them all again and take them some warm mash.I'm not KS but just 20 miles N if NW corner of you guys. This is what I refer to as snot freezing cold Girls won't even venture even tho I swept snow to dirt for them! We'll stay in coop Mom if you don't mind, can we eat oatmeal in our rooms?
Yes I did nuke their treats too ( sprouted wheat, wet mash, cooked oatmeal, leftover veg. Soup, and fresh broccoli. ) Sounds huge amount ! , but a tiny amount of most things Boy you really see pecking order in play in a confined space! They're BRATS! I do have a closed loop water system with horizontal nipples with an aquarium heater so their water is like 75 degrees. It's like a hot chocolate to them I bet
