Consolidated Kansas

i've been reading about Oxine-- do any of you use it? I am reading such good things about it. Where do you buy it? I am seeing it on Amazon and eBay. What about the feed stores? I guess I'll keep an eye out for it at Atwoods. Do you use it in your water or do you fog with it? People were writing in reviews for horse hooves too- about it curing white line thrush and infections-- WOW! Wish I'd known about that a long time ago. Have spent a fortune on so called expensive antibiotic soaks that didn't do much for my horses feet. Would this keep a flock healthier? Can you (or should you) use it on babies??

I hadn't heard about Oxine but it does sound effective. I would be very careful on dosing however because it is a toxin. Bad things in small amounts can be good.
Yeah I went to the auction. I also spent way too much money but I wasn't a total idiot like 90% of the people there. I can't believe the prices they were giving for stuff. Higher than the prices marked. I really didn't buy anything I went after other than a few big bags of professional potting mix. About half of what I bought was because I misunderstood the terms or couldn't see because of the huge crowd and didn't get what I thought I was getting. I should have gone to the other auction. I think I would have had a much better day and not spent as much. Live and learn. However one of the auctioneers was super great looking and I enjoyed watching him all day!

Funny!!! Well, at least you had some eye candy while you mistakenly bid. Too funny! Sorry about that! That would totally be something I would do. The potting soil sounds good, though!

I'm going to look more into this Oxine- I was reading someone really praising it's abilities with their chickens and it sounded almost too good to be true! Says to put it in drinking water, or you can fog with it.. or use it mixed up as a spray for equipment sanitation... and an egg dip! Geez... what can't you do with it?

Hi Everybody:frow

Met another BYC'er today and sold a few more chickens today. Sad to see some of them go, but you know how it is. Too many cockerells is not a good thing. A couple of them were some "favorites." Hope they all made it to their new home safe and sound! Thanks, Jen!

Hawkeye-I think oxine is great stuff. I've read a lot about it, but personally I have not used it. It's kind of pricey. Frankly, for cleaning I generally just use clorox clean-up. It's a lot cheaper.

Danz-Oh! I know the feeling when you bid too much for something, or it turns out to be something other than what you thought.

I LOVE a poorly attended auction! I'll brave some pretty nasty weather if there is something I really want. Lots of people won't stick around if the weather is bad unless they really, really want something badly.

ruthless-I'm not fond of frizzles, but he sure is a pretty one!

Hubby finally got the Gator running today. He ended up tearing it apart a couple more times for piddly problems. It still isn't running great. Not as much power as it should have. Anyway, it needs new spark plugs and a new fuel filter. Hopefully once we get those it will run a little better.

This is kind of silly, but it's a "thing" with my hubby and me. When we lived near Solomon we had a BIG sandpit pond. We would take the rowboat out across the pond. It was so peaceful, relaxing and romantic.

I just loved it. Now we don't have a pond or a rowboat....but we have the Gator. We take it for rides across the fields, and along the roads around our place. We cruise the edge of the woods and watch the wildlife. It kind of takes the place of the rowboat. I just love it. Having the Gator not working has been a depressing thing. It's going to be really nice having it functional again. I hope this isn't TOO "soupy" for everybody.

I think that is awesome. It must be nice to have a man that can relate nature to romance. It isn't happening here.

I have a frizzle serama rooster and at least one frizzle hen he has fathered. It's kind of hard to tell when they are really young. As far as Serama chicks I always have them... even when I don't try.
DH took one out of the Serama house yesterday that the hens had hatched. He had an injury on his foot and the hens "threw him out". You know how if there is an injury everyone picks on them? Anyway he had some blood on his feet. So he brought him in and put him in the hatcher. I put some food and water in there for him to get him through the night. If he is ok today, I'll clean him up and put him in the brooder.
I have so many Seramas I need to get sold. There just isn't a good market for them near here.
One thing about that auction yesterday. You would have never known it was fall. People were buying plants like it was early spring at triple the price, and apparently the news of the poor economy hadn't arrived there. Of course for the big ticket items I was really hoping to get my hands on, there were several dealers so there wasn't a chance of touching them.
In self defense had I been able to get close enough through the crowd to see clearly what I was bidding on I am sure I wouldn't have made so many bad calls. I've never seen that many people at an auction.

I think that is really sweet.

Since we have little ones, my DH and I have what we call "date night" which is Friday and/or Saturday. At least one of those days, sometimes both if nothing else is going on. We put the kids to bed at 8pm and then we watch a rented movie. We eat popcorn, beer, and talk about our day or week as we are getting the tv ready, putting in the movie and the previews run. It's fun, and it's the best we can do for now when we don't have a babysitter. Glad your Gator is running and hope it does better with the new plugs and filter.

Danz- sorry about your little chick. I hope he gets better. Sounds like it's never uneventful around your place.

Okay-- I'm not in panic mode... but It's only a WEEK before my babies get here!! YIKES! My coop isn't done... no run... and lots more work to go. Oh, but we have made more progress... I'll take some pics and post my progress. Or I should say, my DH's progress- he's been working on it a LOT here lately! I think he is just ready to see it end. LOL!
