Consolidated Kansas

Quote:
Grey Construction. Deniece Grey is the owner-- her husband works it too-- but she is the one that is always on site and always answers your calls and walks you through everything. They have entire neighborhoods over on the west side of town that is all of their homes. They will also contract out to rural properties-- like what we did. On our closing date and walk-thru, we noticed that they put in the wrong water heater, it was supposed to be a bit larger. She wasn't too thrilled, but she was very nice about it and they had it switched out the very next day. We had them come out to do a few other things in the first year too, and they were easy to get ahold of and got right out to us. We've had no issues with foundation or even cracks in our walls! Our view-out basement has NO water leaks or any dampness --nothing! And I can still say that after 11 years of owning it.

I got quite a bit done on my stacking cages I am building.

The main thing left to do is build the doors... all 8 of them!

This has been a "plan as you go" project. I do that quite a bit when I am working with all salvaged materials. If I don't have a piece that fits what I want, I change my plans and do something different. Sometimes it doesn't turn out perfect, but usually fits the purpose. This time I am very happy with how it is turning out so far.

I have one more thing to plan out in my head. I want it so that I can just reach in and sweep out all the shavings without any obstructions or boards to work around. The problem with that idea is that shavings will build up against the door so that when I open it they fall out. I am trying to decide in my own mind how I can put a removable retainer or threshold, whatever you want to call it, so that I can fix the problem yet keep my objective of easy clean out.

It would be nice to start with a plan and new material, but it is also very satisfying to me to be able to build it all from salvaged stuff. I'll take pictures one of these days. Besides building the doors the other thing I will have to do is paint it. I'll have white hair for sure. Maybe I should paint it "BLONDE!"

Can't wait to see your pictures. If it weren't for recycled items I wouldn't have much of anything.
CK the house and barns look amazing. The house looks larger than that in the pictures. I so wish I had a couple decent barns. We have one long barn and it has a dirt floor. When I bought this place I thought I would have a floor poured but the price of concrete went up and I've decided I should just put money in a new building when I have the money to do anything. I think you are going to love that place.

Ok, here is the grossest thing. I kept smelling what I thought was a dead mouse in the house for a couple days. I looked everywhere, under everything around every where, inside return air vents, you name it and I couldn't find it. Last night I kept looking for the smell and kept going back to my dining room, but for the life of me couldn't find it. It was driving me nuts. Anyway I followed my nose and it went to one of the dining room chairs. I have this bad habit and laying my windbreaker over the back of the chair. Often because if I need it, it has been raining and it needs to dry out. I reached in the pocket and found a dead mouse. Needless to say I let out a yell. I had worn that jacket at the auction last Saturday. How on earth did a mouse end up in my pocket?????
The only thing I can figure was I had bought a large flower pot thing still packaged together. It has several pots that hook together for a tower. I had put it in the cab of the truck and threw my jacket in on top of it when I got warm. So maybe the mouse was hiding in the pots and managed to land in my jacket pocket and couldn't get out. Gross! Needless to say I've washed it twice since then and washed my hands until they are raw. Gross! Gross! Gross!
In this case I'm really glad I hadn't put my jacket in the closet. I would have had to clean every coat in there to get rid of the smell.

Morning friends!

Is anyone looking for a bird today? No specifics but I just got an email at work that the wichita postal plant got a bird in with no label, nothing to identify it in any way. Probably express mail but now has no label.

If anyone is missing one or shipped one, pm me so we can get this bird home.

Quote from the PO:

We opened up the box and it is a chicken with black and bronze feathers and a red head. We put some water in the box and it is making noises. There is some seed in the bottom of the box.

Sorry I wasn't on yesterday the net provider made some mistakes that left me without service. Anyway... Hawkeye and Danz we put pull ups on our 3 yo daughter at night and they do a good job unless she drinks a ton right before bed but, she stays dry 2 out of 3 nights I can't wait until it's alot more. Our 18 month old son refuses to come to bed with us no matter what time it is, I wish his sister was the same. CK I love that house, hope you get through all your troubles and get moved in ok. O Danz we used this native stone they used to make fences (around Alma) on our first pond and it looked great, you can ussually find some free if you offer to haul it, but that's a ways from you.

I used a bunch of stone that came from an old demolished building to build my front ponds I posted several days ago. I started moving stone and think I need some flag stone to make this look right. So I'm searching for some.
