Consolidated Kansas

These are a couple of my bantam black cochins. This pullet took 2nd under both judges at the show in Sedalia, MO. She looks terrible in these pics. Looks kind of "washed out."

Another shot, same pair.

Here is my FAVORITE guy! I just love this rooster. He is such a talker. He talks to me and his girls. Whenever I go to feed him it is like he is saying, "OH, Ho Ho Ho!" I think the hens have pecked his beard out a little. He is a wheaten ameraucana.

Okay, Trish... here are the black ameraucana roosters. Once again I apologize for the crappy pictures. They don't do them justice. First off let me say that I talked with Jean Ribbick, current president of the Ameraucana breeders association. She recommended the larger roo with better type even with the goofy comb. She also said the larger combs can happen as a result of very hot weather. Well, we had that, didn't we this summer.

Here is the guy with the goofy comb. He is a beautiful rooster, nice type and great size.

This is the other rooster. It is hard to tell from the pictures, but he is not as big and I do not like his tail angle. He doesn't have a nice smooth transition from his back to his tail, even though it doesn't look too bad in this picture, a bit of a squirrel tail.

Another shot of roo #2. Wish I could have gotten a better shot of the big guy, but he got very suspicious of me carrying the camera and following him around.

Happy New Year, I should have posted last night, but I was busy reading posts.
Hey Sis, what ya gonna do to day, I think we are going back in the woods, and cut more logs to bring up to the house. Our weather man says down here that our true winter is going to start about mid-month.

So we are bringing up a bunch of downed tree's, and placing them by the wood stove. Then if it does get bad, we just walk out cut up a couple of logs, and we are good to go. I like cutting wood this way. Just bring the log up to the stove, and do the rest right here. If its wet down back we don't have to worry about tracking up the fields.

I hope to be sending the trio to Oklahoma mid week, but I am going to check and see the mail routes in the morning. I don't want to send them from here, if they are going to KC first. May take them to Miami, they may go straight to OKC then. Got to go look at my birds.

Well, Checoukan, we had a little help over the Christmas week and I believe we are good-to-go for a while with firewood.

The boys really like running the chainsaw and just getting the chance to be out in the woods. I am so thankful for them. Sure wish I could see more of them, but with Mike starting Med school next year that sure isn't going to happen!

DH sometimes drags a whole tree up into the yard with the tractor, then cuts it up there. I don't really like to do it that way because we get too many branches and crap left in the yard then I've either got to clean it up or try to mow through or around it. I'd just as soon leave the branchy crap in the woods. If it was just a log it wouldn't be so bad, but he brings the whole tree!

I think I will go out and clean out the chicken pens a little more today. I REALLY need to clean the house part of my chicken tractor, but that isn't going to happen today. If I try to do that on a day when the wind is blowing it stirs all that poop dust right up in my face and it is more than unpleasant. I'll have to wait for a calm day to do that!

IVY, I wish you could have gotten a side shot of #1 rooster, but from what I can see I like him. I agree #2 does have kind of funky tail feathers. I like that the #1 rooster has the size, I think with these two Lavender hens that will be good because to me they seem a little smaller. They're very pretty & they're doing great, but it seems like they're just going to be smaller than I thought they would be. So now all we have to do is find a way to get him here. That Wheaten Ameraucana is beautiful! I may want some of those later on, I'm not sure. I'm really liking the splash ones I've seen, have you seen any of those? I guess I kind of like unconventional colors because I think those are project birds too. Those Rosecombs are really pretty. I'm glad you got your birds back safe & sound.

Pikeman, I love that hat, so cute!

I saw that Wal Mart has packages of 6 of those chandelier bulbs that say 1 year bulbs, so I got one this time & I think I'll just start buying some of those every time I buy groceries & then I'll be stocked up for awhile. They still had tins at half price so I got one more, that should be enough for now I think & I bought the last 3 lamp kits they had. DH thinks I'm nuts & asked me what all of those were for. I want to have some made up so that I will have enough for all of my breeder pens for next year, so I might as well make them all at once. I've never done anything like that, so wish me luck.

We didn't go anywhere last night as usual, we never do on NY's Eve, just stayed home & watched TV. I saw on FB where my son was though, I think he forgets I can see everything he posts!

Oh PLEASE NO!!! Not until AFTER mid month!! PLEASE!!! We are supposed to move my daughter over the holiday weekend! Do NOT relish the thought of doing it in bad weather! Cold I can manage - but don't really want to mess with winter weather!

Happy New Year everyone!

Ivy, I do all the trimming when he brings the tree out. I trim all branches, and things like that off, then cut it in two. I go back and any of the stuff I trimmed off the log that is big enough to burn, I cut in chuncks, and pile up, then load in pickup. On days like to day, we do not burn any big wood, just the small stuff I cut off of the limbs. That way not so much waste in burn pile, and we get most of the tree that way. Little more work on my part, but I do like do it.
He can get ahead of me sometimse, but I catch up quick. When I do, that is when I trim the limbs up. Sometimes there is some really good logs off those limbs. He uses the tractor to take the logs up to the house. I stay and pile brush and stuff. Going to take the dozer down there and push all my piles up and when the wind lays down, going to burn them.

Yes they are moving into Pittsburg. Apparently their kids are old enough to be involved in any number of activities and they are tired of the constant back and forth. Well - she is. Her husband works in Baxter Springs so he is just gonna drive a little further. But she is looking forward to not running in and out. And my daughter is ecstatic over having that much room! So hoping it works out for all concerned.

Now if the weather would just cooperate!
