Consolidated Kansas

Hi! I am a newbie and live between Emporia and Topeka. BYCers have been most helpful in my research. I just set my very first eggs in the incubator yesterday, and am building a hoop coop! I am very encouraged to kow there are Kansas folks who understand the bizarre weather we face! And Hawkeye, wood floors and country honest rock! A crappy house with lots of land is even attractive.

Welcome! Tell us more about your chicks (if you have any) or keep us posted about the eggs you are incubating.

Welcome & tell us about your chickens & set up. Are the eggs in the incubator going to be your first chickens or do you have some already? Hoop coops are awesome, I have one & am in the process of finishing up on another one.
I hope everyone had a good day. We are doing good just wish the days would warm up more

Just wanted to share what my father -n - law made me I just need to paint or stain it:D

That's really nice, I like it! I have stenciled an egg sign for at my driveway that I need to get out there, but also need to put one at the corner. I really need to get that done, but also need to get my hoop coop finished so I can move chicks in there. They're outgrowing the brooder.

It was really cold here today, I hope tomorrow is better, I'm so sick of this cold weather it's just the pits. I have so much that I need to do outside & I can't get out there to do it.

I took a couple of days off to get things going so we can move by the end of this month. I had them guys come out to install Internet at the farm house so we won't have to wait and miss having it after the move. Additionally I work from home from time to time so I really need it available 24/7. But I won't turn off the Internet at this house yet since we are still living here. Well, long story short, I have no Internet in either place. I'm not a happy camper. They told me they would send the guys out next Monday to get it all fixed and I told them they will have to fix it NOW or I'll need to talk to their manager! Thank goodness I don't have to work this weekend. I was really seeing red while on the phone with them and I'm sure my tone of voice showed!

I'm not going to do multi quotes here since I've been having issues with using them. I hope I'm not the only one having this issue. Just want to jump in and say hi. And typing on my phone is really difficult! I miss having the Internet and having the slowputer no matter how slow and ancient that thing is.

P/s - stay warm everyone. I'm. Sure summer is just around the corner.;)

I ordered them, and the shipping was free. They won't ship until after the 8th because the warehouse is closed until then, but even if I don't need them for this problem, it will be good to have them in future. (the shipping is free this weekend because of the delay if anyone is planning to order for future use.)

Do you know where they ship from?

OMGosh-- I just did a MAJOR unload at the thrift shop this morning! Bags and bags! I had vintage glassware, dishes, decorations that I'm tired of off my walls, kids clothing... on and on! It would have made a great garage sale, if we only had the time. Ah well. I still have more closets to do! And I *thought* I had purged pretty good over the winter when I started in on this! I'm getting really cut-throat with what I'm keeping! I just don't want all this stuff anymore. I want a really cleared out house. We're actually going to get into a larger home down in OKC..BUT... we won't have a basment! They have no basements in Oklahoma-- those crazy people! Which means I have no place to store our extra stuff. I surprised my DH this morning when I was pulling things off the walls and out of closets and our dispay cases. It's starting to look barren here. We already have boxes packed and ready to go to the storage shed we're renting... excpet I started pulling stuff out of those to get rid of too. I pulled out a set of 40 glass vintage plates and when I got to the thrift shop, the ladies were squealing in delight at all the stuff I was bringing in. I had an americana theme with lots of cute metal stars, quilts, framed art work, knick knacks etc.. and they had fun digging through it. LOL

One thing moving is good for -- making you weed out your stuff!

My aunt was talking about oil and fracking and Oklahoma the other day. She said Oklahoma is mostly on rock, which is why they don't build basements. It would be ridiculously expensive to blast out the rock. What do they do for tornado shelters?

That's really nice. Is it wood-burned?

I think I might be willing to get excited about planting some time this next week. Surely we're done with the freezing temps? This time last year we had everything planted except the squash and we were already eating the first radishes.

This is my first hatching experience as an adult. My family raised chickens when I was growing up. I have wanted my own flock for a long time. We finally are able to get started! I have my egg babies in a Little Giant stryofoam still air incubator I borrowed from my friend. I have Silver Laced Wyandottes, Black Copper Marans, Lavendar Orpingtons, Basque, and Olive Eggers (BCM and Ameraucana cross) in there. I am hoping for some happy, healthy hens!

My mother used to say the "3 moves are worth a fire" in terms of cleaning out stuff you don't really need.

We don't have anything planted yet, either. I had almost given up on having a garden this year. Summer isn't summmer without fresh tomatoes, & i need fresh cukes to make my yummy pickles! Plus, I will.have chickies who will covet the scraps!

Oh, I agree! Make sure to add chicken poop to your garden, you'll be surprised at what a difference chicken poop fertilizer makes! Your plants will be jumbo in size, no steroids used. Also I found that my plants are hardier and grow better and faster with chicken poop.
