Consolidated Kansas

Josie, I'm glad to see you back, yeah it would be a little hard to type while nursing a baby. Babies just get like that sometimes, it's hard to say what sets them off. It sounds like she is growing like a weed though. I'm sorry about your turkey, that was one huge turkey. I lost my tom so I'm hoping to raise some of his babies & hopefully get another one. I have two right now in a rubbermaid tub that seem to be doing OK so far with two little chicks as tutors. I just never thought before about birds not knowing how to eat until I got baby turkeys & baby peafowl too. They're a lot different to get started than chicks.

I was so happy today to have the 35 chicks leave & go to Topeka with the lady that ordered them today, yay! Now I have a lot less mouths to feed.

I have one more hoop coop to get built soon. I need to build this one & make it a double pen with doors at both ends instead of just one. That way half can house my Barnevelders & the other half can be a grow-out pen for chicks that aren't big enough or old enough to go out in the general flock yet. I think if I build it the same size as the other two it will give me enough room to do that & actually probably will be easier to do in some ways.

HEChicken, that was scary about those coyotes, I'm glad they took off when your dogs came out!

Welcome KSjayhawk!

Today has been such a beautiful day out, I'm really enjoying it, I hope you all are too.

I on the off chance anyone that lives...lets say within 50-75 miles of either Clay Center or Concordia hatched out some California White Leghorns

this spring, and needs to get rid of a roo, I am looking...also would like to hatch out some guineas if anyone has eggs???

So we lost some of the 8 weekers to something at night. DH set a trap last night but didn't catch anything. The trap was triggered but nothing was inside it. We had reinfored the hardware cloth so we have no further loss but it sure will be nice to find out what had been killing my chickens!

DH thinks it is a raccoon or posum. We will be setting the trap again until we catch it. I'm seeing flames thinking about it so no telling what I'll do to it once it's caught in the trap.

I hope you get it figured out quickly.

So you guys think we are getting more rain/storm? The pond is really full. Haven't seen it so full for a longgggg time. The neighbor is very happy due to the full pond and their horses are drinking out of it!

The rain has disappeared from my local forecast. Maybe I'll actually get some more stuff planted soon.

DH had to shoot our huge turkey the other night. He was so bad he couldn't stand so it was time but it was really hard. DH was very upset after which surprised me but he was partial to the turkey too. I am always surprised at how sensitive he is.

Awww. I like your DH.

Miss Amelia is having a rough day today. Very gassy and fussy. I finally crammed her into the moby wrap and she is sleeping now but she is a lug to carry around! She weighed 8 lbs 10 oz at her appointment with the midwife yesterday! I hate it when she is upset and doesn't feel well. I don't know what caused it because I can't think of anything different that I have eaten that might have upset her tummy. Sigh.

I hope she has a much better day tomorrow.

McPherson has the whole All School's Day thing going on this week. I thought I was finally done with the whole having-to-go-to-the-parade thing, but then I found out my niece was in it (color guard). Then I found out she was also performing at the May Fete tonight, so I had to go to that, too. It's the 100th year, so it's a big celebration and everything lasts an eterrrrrrrrnittttttyyyyy .... The fireworks scare my poor Weim.

My nephew is graduating Saturday night and we have to go to that, too. All I want to do is go play in the dirt and plant some stuff. When do I get to do that???

Cherwill sounds like you could use some time to yourself. I hear you!
I've been so busy I haven't had time to post much.I'd like to just get caught up on chores. It's been a busy week.
I got my Breda fowl all moved together into the coop and pen that DH made. After I moved them I showed him some things that really needed changed. It's a whole new design he came up with. I want to go paint it. In fact I need to paint a bunch of coops. No time.
Tomorrow is going to be a super busy day too. I keep trying to decide what breeds I am going to eliminate. I hate to give any of them up.
