After the baby comes, I worry that I'm not going to be able to keep up with my job, taking care of all of my critters, housework, etc. So, I've decided to sell half of my ducks. That'll leave me with 4 ducks (3 ducks and a drake - I'm keeping my rouen duck, my mix drake, and 2 khaki campbells) and 3 geese. The buyer is supposed to come this afternoon to pick them up. I'm sad to see them go, but I am looking forward to the lower feed bill and less work. Hopefully, the birds I'm keeping will be enough to keep the bugs in the yard down and still provide us with a supply of eggs. Ideally, they'll provide us with just enough to keep us in supply and not have any left over to sell. I've discovered that duck eggs don't seem to sell very well in this area, even though the price I'm making on the eggs isn't enough to even pay for the food I"m feeding the birds. I guess that's another reason I'm getting rid of some. Selling them is more work than it's worth.

I had found them laying eggs in several places around the house, but every time I'd find them, they'd move again. I think they eventually ran out of good hiding places in the yard and moved to the next place they could think of, which just happened to be quite a ways from the house. Lizzy I knew you didn't mean you were selling them all. Babies do take time but you won't feel so tired as you do right now. Your body is working really hard to make a baby and that just plain wears a woman out. And babies don't have to wear you out. It is all about time management. When you mothering instincts kick in you will be wonder woman. I understand decreasing your work load though. I so need to do that myself. No babies here unless they are grand kids. I am just old and wear out a lot quicker than I used to.
Josiechick I've been letting my goslings out to play during the day. They are so cute. The older ones were very imprinted on me and followed me every where. But since I put all the younger ones in with them I am no longer important! The worst part is to get the little parade to go in at night. They love playing in the grass and the puddles. I have some pretty saddle backs from the gray goose.
Jennyjane, that's what it is all about. Have fun with those babies and enjoy their silly antics. They are awesome entertainment.

Today I was entertained by my little goats. I let them out in the yard all afternoon & they had a grand old time. Then when it was getting close to time to feed them they started really kicking up their heels & bouncing around like they had springs on their feet & then they would do a half turn in the air, it was hilarious! I finally had to go put them back in because I was trying to plant some things & was afraid they were going to stomp on my plants before I got the fence around them. They were two tired little goats this evening though, they were really quiet. There is a lot of grass & weeds along with a lot of little small trees out in the woods for them to eat so they have a great time out there. The smallest one will come looking for me if she doesn't know where I am. She's the sweetest little thing.

I finally got my new bucket waterers put together & put them out in all my breeder pens today, that was something I've been wanting to get done. I also got the 3 out from last year & put those out in the pens too. I think I still need to get a few more, which means I will have to order more lids. I get the ones with the spouts so I don't have to lift them to fill them, I just open the spout on the top & use the hose to fill. I use the galvanized pans for the bottom part for the water to flow out into. They work really nice for summer & you don't have to fill them so often since it's 5 gallons of water.

I couldn't help myself...I keep a few pet store crickets on hand for my tarantula and I had to see what my little buff orps would do so...They went NUTS...they went from running from a cricket to running with a cricket to chasing the one with the cricket..It made my day!!! PRICELESS....I for sure will video the next time I introduce little chicks to fun food!!!

Hi Knhkluckers.. i agree.. i have meal worms.. and it is the most fun.. to throw in or hold in 1 meal worm.. and watch.. that 's good for 12 & fifteen times..
then.. to toss in 5 or 10 at a time..

like rooster lew.. I think my extra is an EE rooster.. he is now.. the first and fastest.. to get the worms.. .almost every time.
- I wonder if that means they are great foragers.. ?

so.. on that note... does any one keep more than one rooster with their free range flock..
I have 21 chicks. just 4 weeks now.. . and I"m sure some of my strait run's (plus the ee) will be roosters.. and i have my 2 older -Jersey Giants.. for breeding..
so.. what is your experience .. with multiple roosters.. .. I hope thereare some good stories out there.. ( i am expecting to remove some.. & still hoping i can keep 4.. to breed )
