Quote: Thanks cherwill, I am kind of sore, moving slower than usual, but it will get better. Wouldn't it be nice if all our spouses could be so supportive of our chickens, that would be great. Unfortunately mine just doesn't want anything to do with them & gripes continually about all the time I spend out with them. He thinks I should be in the house cleaning, ha! I do it when I have to & that's the extent. He doesn't seem to care about helping so why should I kill myself doing it all the time, that's how I feel. I do the things that have to be done & leave it at that. He bought me one of those robot vacuum cleaners & you just push the button & it goes around sweeping, so he can even start it up when he wants to. That's one of the best things I've gotten for quite awhile. I tend to do what others here have said happens at their houses too & that is when I know someone is coming I race around cleaning. I know it would be better if I kept up with it, but I would rather spend the time out with my birds & animals. At least they seem to appreciate what I do for them & I get fresh air & exercise doing it. If people think we don't get exercise taking care of our birds they should try taking care of about 100 birds, 11 rabbits, two goats, 4 dogs, & multiple cats & then tell me we're not. I guess I don't expect my DH to love the chickens as much as me, but he expects me to be interested in his baseball & football, so why shouldn't he at least try to take some interest in my chickens.

I'm sorry for the rant today, but I had to get it off my chest, sometimes you just have to.

So does the robot thing work on solid floors as well as carpets. I have thought of trying one but I only have hard floors and some throw rugs. They are so pricy I'd hate to spend all that money if they weren't going to work. Of course 99% of my dirt is chick dust, animal fur and dirt that gets tracked in by a certain person who never learned to wipe his shoes.
I have too much clutter which is why my house is really a mess. So far today I've only managed to start some laundry and fold some other. The day is going way too fast.

Is it really your birthday??? It is mine too! I actually forgot until my sister sent me a Happy Birthday via an email.
I fell once about 4 feet when I was pregnant with my oldest daughter. She quit moving for over 4 days. I really thought I had killed her. That was back before they had ultra sound.

Ha ha! Happy birthday you two!

The story about your fall is pretty scary, Danz! Thankfully, Baby has been continuing to move and kick. I fell uphill which means I didn't fall as far. Plus, I landed on my side.

Where any of my fellow byc friends at the Johnson county fair today? If so I got Grand Champion with my white silkie hen, josie, and I got reserve grand with my Americana hen :3. I also have 3 polish who all got reds and a white silkie roo who got a purple :)

Danz, yes it works on floors & carpet & goes around clutter. It changes direction when it runs into something.

Congrats polishpal!

Congrats Polish Pal. That is great.
What brand is your robot thing Trish? How often do you have to charge it.
I am looking at the possibility of moving my Dad in here if he gets to the point he can't stay at the assisted living home. I think something like that might really help keep the place clean.
I've been sweeping. It would be nice to have a machine take care of that for me!

It's the iRobot Roomba & it's pricey, but it does work. We get a lot of stuff tracked into this house because my DH doesn't wipe his feet either when he comes in & out & with a brooder in here right now I have pine shavings on the floor & I also have two cats & two little dogs in here, so I have pet hair & the dogs pick things out of their food that they don't like, so we have bits of dog food on the floor as well. It has a charger that as soon as it gets done you can press dock & it will go there to charge, it just stays on the charger when not in use. Or if it gets full it tells you it needs to be emptied. It's very easy to empty, there are no bags & it's also very easy to clean. I just took the biggest brush out the other day & washed it under running water with dish soap. It has a small replaceable brush also that pushes things into the vac. We just replaced ours the other day. I don't know what all comes with different models, but the one we got model 790 came with a cleaning kit & extra brushes & filters as well as 3 lighthouses. The lighthouses are little battery operated controls that you can sit at doorways so if you want to just clean one room & not have it come out of there you change it from one setting to the other & it will stay in there. When you want it to come out you just change it to the other setting. We got one with a remote, but honestly after we paid extra for that we don't use it. I thought maybe I would want to start it from upstairs, but I haven't. It does a pretty decent job of vacuuming, it's not perfect just like no vacuum is perfect, but it does save me a lot of work. It doesn't do stairs, but you wouldn't expect it to either. I hope to remedy the problem with the stairs before too long anyway because we plan to take the carpet off the stairs & in the hallway upstairs too. If it were up to me I wouldn't have any carpet at all, but taking it all out would be next to impossible because we have a huge king sized waterbed in our bedroom & taking that down would be too much work & we would never get the mattress back to the way it is probably. So for now we'll keep the carpet in the bedrooms. We have it in the livingroom too, but it's a very small room, more like a den than anything, but it's where we watch TV.

I just found this video & thought some of you might want to see how chicks are treated at hatcheries, it's a wonder they ever make it alive after the treatment they get & then being transported through the mail. It's not easy to watch so be prepared, here is the link:
. This is just one more reason to buy from local breeders who don't kill chicks just because they're male.

Wow, congratulations on the wins. The Lyon county fair doesn't have open classes for chickens (even if I had something worth taking). I'm glad the weather was a bit more forgiving this year than it was last.

I've had two of the iRobot Roombas over the years. The up side is that they can run under beds and get the dust bunnies out and they work tirelessly. The downside is that they don't seem to have too long a lifespan. Of course I have bought refurbs through Woot.com when they have had them, so that could be the reason.

They are slow. My living area is Porcelain tile and cork, and it worked well, if slowly. It would run for a couple of hours on a charge, and in that time could do the living room, dining room, and one bedroom. Then I would recharge it for the other 2 bedrooms and the laundry area. It takes me about 20 minutes to manually sweep those areas with my upright vacuum.

I decided not to replace it the last time one died. It was a charging problem (again) and out of warranty (of course), and it just wasn't worth the hassle.

That said, I did like it and used it on a weekly basis.
