Consolidated Kansas

Hope you and your chicks are having a great evening Ashley.
I wonder if my ancestors were as clumsy as I am. I was just out trying to put birds up and stepped on a grain scoup. It's something my DH made. He had set it up alongside the garage. I was walking the young guineas back to the gate and stepped on the flat part that is just the same color as the dirt. It flew up and hit me square in the mouth. Loosened one tooth (I hope temporarily) and cut above my lip. Anyone asks about my injuries;I'm telling them DH did it. If he hadn't set the dang thing where I walk all the time I wouldn't have stepped on it. I 'll bet my lip feels just as far as Trish's did after her Dennis appointment but there is definitely no pain killer in there.

I'm sure it will bruise.
My Dad is exhibiting some weird things right now. He is thinking he is eating and drinking when there is nothing there and tonight he kept trying to put his oxygen nose piece on for glasses. We couldn't get him to wear it right until he started having chest pains and I put it on him again and told him to leave it there. The nurse said it was probably end of life stuff. It's one of those situations you don't know whether to laugh or cry.

Danz, that is so cool that you hold a piece of what your ancestor owned. My mom brought a gold ring, necklace, a pair of jade earrings and jade bangle that belonged to my grandma. She split that among me and my sisters. I will forever cherish it.

I'm sorry to hear your dad is not doing well. It's never easy to hear that the end is near. I hope he is not in a lot of pain.

Ashley, hope you and yore chicks got home safe and sound. The storm just past through us and the wind was horrendous. It's still raining out there. The storm is heading straight south and looks huge on the radar.

That's pretty cool Danz, yes maybe you are one of your ancestors reincarnated. I actually like a lot of the old furniture better than the new stuff. I love antiques & have a few pieces in my house. I probably would have more if I could.

I just got back from the dentist a few minutes ago & still have somewhat of a numb mouth. It's starting to wake up though now after over 4 hours. I don't know why they have to give you so much anesthetic that lasts so long. I hate walking around with a numb mouth & tongue. I ended up eating a concrete at Freddy's Frozen Custard because I wasn't supposed to chew & I couldn't feel half my tongue at that time. My DH said it was kind of a weird lunch & yes it was, but it was better than none at all.

Trish, every time I needed work done in the mouth, the dentist has to give me extra painkiller. Guess I'm a wuss when it comes to pain. Joking aside, I hate the feeling of fat lips and numb tongue. Always afraid I'll chew my tongue when I eat so I decided not to eat until the numbness wears of, which could be a few hours after the appt. Hope you get to feeling better.

I always feel off center for a day or so after having Novocaine. It makes me achy and nauseous. Better than the pain, though. I'm a wuss, too.

Anyone willing to help me figure out if I have pullets/cockerels? We recieved 5 babies, I am taking a major chance and took a barred rock as well that she thought might be a rooster, he was so cute! Please share what you think! They are 4 weeks and a few days old.

The black babies are a possible mix of Ameraucana/cochin and all have fuzzy legs!

chick #1 chick #1 - also known as Twlight Sparkle
chick #2 chick #2
chick #3 chick #3
chick #4 chick #4 (the first photo is not the best)
chick #5 chick #5

so, hopefully most all turn out to be hens, but knowing my luck, probobly not....I am worried about the barred rock, but there was only 2 and I was really hoping to get one!

sorry to hear about your dad not doing to well. :( I can't imagine having to deal with that. I lost one grandpa last year and the other is in the hospital now (again) and that is hard enough.

The storm passed just to the east of Hutch! When we where picking them up it was super windy and the temp really dropped! We could hear the thunder and saw lots of lighting, but no rain! YEAH~

I guess I would rather just get the thing over than have to deal with a dead mouth for hours. I have been known to have some things done with no anesthetic because I hate it so much. This time however the dentist was removing a whole filling in a cracked tooth & then getting it ready for a crown so I let him give me the anesthetic, but he tends to overdo it. He used topical then gave me two different shots. It seemed like overkill to me.

Ash, the Ameraucanas are hard to tell a lot of times till they're a lot older because of the type of comb they have. I raise pure bred Ameraucanas in two different colors & I usually have to wait for quite awhile to tell sexes. On the barred rock however I do think it's a rooster because it's comb looks awfully red so young. You will see other signs as it gets older, check the neck feathers after they come in to see if they're pointed or round. If they're pointed it's a rooster & also when the saddle feathers come in they will start pointing down along the tail. The pullets often get a tail first earlier than the roosters.

Danz, I'm sorry your dad is going downhill, it's hard to watch I know. Hopefully they can keep him comfortable so he is not in pain. Hugs coming your way.

We had the rain get here a lot sooner tonight than they predicted, it wasn't supposed to get here till after midnight but it was about 8:30 when it started pouring. I barely got in from feeding birds & animals when it started. The wind came up & boy was it cool & then it started raining hard right after I got in the house. We were just starting to see the water soak into the ground some & here we go again.

Thanks Trish! I just hate the idea of getting attached and then having to rehome them!
I know I was taking a risk with the barred rock, I wonder if I should try to trade back?
