Consolidated Kansas

Just came in from outside is 58* and chicks that hatched Monday with broody hen are content and running around. I obsess when I have chickens in the garage or brooder but these little boogers are tougher than we realize. Mother hen was sitting on dog house and watching little guys below

Danz... do you happen to have a picture of the beans? I don't know the name of the beans off the top of my head and I tried to google but nothing popped up either. If you have a picture or a link to the beans, I'll see if DH can find them there.
I can't find it either. My sister brought them back from China from one of her many trips there. I'll see if she can remember what they were called. The name she knows might be the Chinese word for it so I may have to guess at spelling if she remembers. She lived in Germany for many years and her husband, a German doctor, often spent time in China studying medicine. They were small red beans or seeds and they had black dots on them.
Thanks Ralph. I guess I need to find some of that stuff. I know there was some other expensive stuff I was going to buy from Orchlens when it was on sale that worked on about anything.
It's cold and miserable here. It was warmer earlier but the wind came up and it's frigid out. Not my kind of day. I need to go gather eggs but dreading it.

The red ones in the picture?

ROSARY PEA, PRECATORY BEAN - Abrus precatorius

Tweety I do believe this is it. I can't believe they now grow in Florida. Maybe I can find some here. I just think they were awesome looking. I started a couple plants but lost them before they flowered. Don't know if I can get them to grow indoors or not. Sounds like they probably aren't very hardy.
I don't know how you found those Sharol but thank you.
Here are some more names for it:
Abrus precatorius, known commonly as "Gunja",Jequirity, Crab's Eye, Rosary Pea, John Crow Bead, Precatory bean, Indian Licorice, Akar Saga, Giddee Giddee or Jumbie Bead
I found several offers for it on Ebay so I won't need to get them from China

Googled red bean with black spots. (I use Chrome, and that might make a difference)

Well thanks Sharol. I got these seeds back in the 80s. My sister said they were supposed to bring good luck. I guess you wouldn't want your animals to get them but they are such cool things. They do look like lady bugs.

Those are interesting looking, but I wouldn't want them where my chickens could get to them.

Well I was out taking some plastic off of the south sides of the hoop coops this afternoon & it looked like something had tried to get into the guinea hoop coop & it's totally covered with hardware cloth. I'm wondering if the darned raccoon was trying to chew through there. I put a patch over it with another piece on the outside & then patched another spot on another one that I felt like needed some reinforcement as well. Darned predators anyway!
