I have more ducks due to hatch the 21st, I'm hoping for chocolates in this batch, I got the eggs from a lady in Colorado. My hatcher is going to be busy all week this week, geez. I just got my brooders pared down to only a few remaining chicks & now there are lots more coming.

Gee that problem sounds all too familiar!!! LOL

I have little mille fleur cochin chicks hatching today, I already had a pile of them when I came downstairs. They're the cutest little things with the feathered feet! They really aren't as tiny as I thought they would be coming from such tiny eggs. They must have really been rolled up in there.

My Marans/Orp cross broodie has decided that she is DONE with the 7 week olds. A couple of them aren't ready to cut the apron strings yet, and my BO broody from last year has adopted them (or so it appears). They are on the roost with her tonight instead of their mother. It is really cute.

I guess chickens are like people. Some are cut out to be mothers and others simply aren't.

Wow Sharol that was early. I can certainly understand the mother's ideas though! Especially after spending hours and hours on the road with 90 noisy chicks in the car this week.
I've got another dental appointment today. I am so tired of going. I've been going non-stop for the last 5 days and still have several more things coming up. I just really want to stay home and take care of my birds and chill. At least this shouldn't be a long trip today. I do need to,of course get more chick starter while I am in town.

Danz, I can't imagine listening to that many chicks in the car for that many hours. I hope your dentist appt. goes well today.

It's windy as everything out there today, I get so tired of the wind sometimes, it's just wearing if you have to be out in it for long.

I got my hoop coop all finished yesterday evening & got the birds moved into both ends now. I'm so glad that project is done. After I got that finished I went out & helped trim branches & brush out of the fence line. We're still working on getting things cleared to put up the new fence in the field. My DH says all of the posts on the east side have to be pulled & turned around because they're all facing wrong. I guess it's a good thing he bought a new t-post puller, he's going to need it.

Hi to everyone else! It sure is kinda quiet on here these days. I need to get up and work on cleaning the house while the peanut is napping but I am dragging my heels. I also have a chicken that I need to doctor her foot, she was limping around last night, one of my old ladies, she laid an egg in the crate this am though! 4 year old hatchery bird! Well, I am off to get that done.

Well my living shelter is looking kinda pitiful. It is serving its purpose well. The chickens love getting on top and definitely enjoy their nap inside.

. They are so confused with the weather changing so much. One day they're cold the next they're hot. I made sure all the water dishes are full and in the shade. My daughter keeps going in there and dumping out their water dishes! When the central ac went out a few weeks ago we installed some old window units. Well the one in the living room keeps making a tinking sound. Like there's a fan blade loose or a screw loose. Before it would just make the sound occasionally. Well today it was constant. Ugh. Can't win.

Did you guys have everything staked into the ground yet? It's as windy as all get out... my poor plants are suffering! Poor DH's new sprinklers are no match to this wind. I seriuosly think this is the windiest year ever!

Need some help from Danz or anyone who knows ducks. A few weeks ago I found some duck eggs and have no idea how long they have been out there. Just so happen I have a hen went broody so I just stuck the duck eggs underneath her. I really don't think they will hatch but lo and behold, when I came home from work today, DH told me he thought he saw a yellow duckling under the hen. By then, it was almost dark and thinking with the hen and new duckling in the high nest box is not a good idea so I moved them and the rest of the eggs into a secluded area with food and a bowl of water. I certainly could not have water and food in the nest box due to the space. Now here are the questions. What will happen to the duckling? Will it do fine with a chicken mama? If the rest of the eggs don't hatch, should I go get a couple of ducklings so this lonely one will have some company? Will the duckling think that he or she is a chick? I don't think any of my adult ducks will adopt it.

Hope the wind die down soon.
