Consolidated Kansas

I downsized considerably yesterday. The only American Orpingtons I have now are my buffs. I only have a couple of 100% English buffs and I really like my big ole buff girls. It was really hard to let go of those blacks because they were so outstanding. I do have a handful of eggs on the counter. I may hatch a few of the largest eggs and save them back for another breeding project. Blacks can always be used to correct type in other colors.
After the birds were gone I vacuumed and pressure washed out the houses. I thought I might move some of the English in today but it's so muddy that probably won't happen. Of course we got another huge rain in the middle of the night and early this morning. The whole idea behind selling birds was to make less work but as soon as I move those juveniles I'll still have just as many pens.
My buyer also spoke for some India blue peachicks so another future sale is in line. They had purchased birds from me earlier as well.
Today is another hatch day. I just moved some ducklings and geese out to an outside pen yesterday. I sure hope they did alright in this weather. Poor babies!!!

It's so darned muddy out in my pens, it's a mess. Why can't we just spread the rain out a little more so we don't have to have our birds standing in a mud puddle? I mean I hate to complain since it was so dry for so long, but this is getting to be too much. My yard is like a jungle & even the goats & sheep can't keep up with it.

I know exactly what you mean Trish. I end up looking like I've been rolled in the mud after I feed and water. And the poor birds are wading in muddy water. I wish there was something I could do about it. I do hope to build my pens up some later this summer. I might have to rebuild some doors and stuff but I think having them on a higher level might help. Who knows.
I woke up this morning and felt like I couldn't move. This weather is working on my joints and muscles as well. Now it's supposed to get stifling hot the rest of the week. We can't seem to win this weather game.

I am hoping that someone here has some pullets or closet to lay chickens due to older hens and a predator attack I am in need of some egg layers. I have corrected all the problems so no more predator problems I would love to have some Marans Easter eggers, Barred rocks but at this time not picky will be willing to drive to pick up thanks for any help.

Wish I could help you. I just don't have any in that age range.

I have seen similar pics of roosters and am confused to what breed my rooster is. He is so pretty Big Chicken. Here are pics now. And when he was little

okjenyp, I don't have a clue. He could be an easter egger of some type. His markings, comb and color don't look like anything I am familiar with. The other option if he came from the pan fry selection could be one of the sex link breeds as the roosters can come in various colors.

There lies the problem. Atwoods had a mixed bin of straight runs. So I am clueless. Because I got a RiR from that same bin and an EE. Everyone keeps asking me the breed. Oh well. Like I've said before. This is a learning experience and next year I will have a better knowledge of where to get chicks. Thanks danz

Looking again he could be a Welsummer rooster. Although not typey that might be the case. The gold lacing on the chest throws it off for me but otherwise he looks like a welsummer. There are a couple people here that have some Welsummers and might be able to give their opinion. I had some hens but never had a rooster.
I sold a few chicks this morning. I only have a few hundred more to go!!! I'm in desperate need of a break. I still have plenty of birds to get moved here and there. It would be nice if they would all just come to me so I wouldn't have to chase them down to move them.
I candled eggs and eliminated some more potentials today. That made me feel a little better. It sure would be nice to get down to one incubator again.
