Trish are there small quiet breeds of Guineas? The ones my friend has are large and very noisy ... Don't want to upset my neighbors

need to move to the country with more land lol

No, all guineas are loud & obnoxious, especially around feeding time or bedtime. During the day when the males I have out free ranging are just grazing around my property they're not that noisy but you sure hear them when it's time to feed everyone. I tolerate them because we would have twice as many ticks & other bugs if it weren't for them. We have a lot of wooded areas & ticks are really bad here.

Brought a ton home but my chickens won't touch them

Yep that is a potato beetle. They can wipe out a potato garden in a day. Speaking of which I really need to get out there and start digging mine and get my onions dug. There just hasn't been any time.
Yesterday was another one of those days that was non-stop work. I still have tons to do. I have some people coming for birds this evening as well.
Yesterday I hatched several more turkey poults and still had several eggs left in the incubator. I think this is the next to last week I will be hatching bourbon reds. I have a broody girl with a nice big pile of eggs under her and the other girls are starting a second nest so maybe one of them will go broody as well. I plan to hatch midget whites just a while longer since I still have buyers and haven't kept any for myself. I may want to add another girl and butcher a boy or two later.

We actually got some rain last night, I don't know how much but we'll take it since it was getting so darned dry here. Everything was looking really bad. We had all of that rain at a time earlier & then it just dried up & nothing. I figured that's what it would do. We have plenty of places now for the chickens to take dust baths for sure.

Yeah we got some rain last night too. I am so tired today though I haven't done much. I am sure I have wet feed out there.
We finally got some measurable precip last night 1.75" or so. Of course they got 4" in town, but who's complaining? Not me.

Thanks again, Danz, for the lessons. I feel like I learned a real skill. May be needing it. I got a good look at the 2 week olds today, and 2 of them have 3 bump combs (daddy is an ee). Dang. 2 out of 3 again???

Join the club sharol, it seems like I have gotten more cockerels than anything else the last hatches I had. The only one I didn't get cockerels in the majority was my latest Cream Legbar hatch. I have 4 pullets & 1 cockerel in that one, which is good because I need pullets.

We finally got some rain here today too! I was in town mowing the church's yard when it hit. Just as I was finishing, one drop fell and then the sky burst open. I got thoroughly soaked as I raced to put the mower back into the trailer. Of course, in my haste, I bumped the one ramp wrong, and it fell, leaving the front end of the mower in the trailer and the back end on the ground. Someone living close by had seen me struggling to get the mower OUT of the trailer, so he offered help and pointed his house out to me so I could ask for more if I needed it. I was SO THANKFUL for a kind stranger! I had literally seconds from the time I finished the mowing to the time the rain started falling. And the kind stranger showed up right when I needed him!

I had been planning out eating supper out, so I had a change of clothes with me. Good thing too 'cuz I needed something dry to change into by the time I was done!!!

We ended up with about half an inch of much needed rain!! My husband had the car in town, as he had taken it into town a few days ago and left it at work when he went for a work trip. He got back just after the downpour started. WE ended up taking the car home... and regreted it when we ALMOST got stuck! We have to be in town early tomorrow, and now we're not sure how were' going to get there because there's more rain possibly on the way.

It's raining here too! Maybe it'll wash some of the pollen out of the air. I've almost been sick after doing chores the last couple days and this evening DH kindly did them for me. Hopefully I'll be able to get some sleep tonight and not up battling allergies:confused: until 2 like last night!:/
I was wondering about different breeds of ducks and if there were any that were fairly showy that didn't have to be penned and could free range at least during the day? I'm not very familiar with duck breeds I guess.

Hello everyone! I'm 74 posts behind, so I'm not even going to try to catch up. I hope everyone and their critters are doing well.

There's not too much going on around here. My hens either lay two eggs a day, or none. Fortunately, there aren't many days where they don't lay any eggs. The garden needs a bit of work. I think it's time to pull all the onions and dig up all the potatoes, before they start to go bad. The fennel is beginning to sprout again out of itself, so all that needs to be harvested. Someone stole four of our five watermelons. I think they only left the last one because it was probably dark and the melon was hidden by a lot of foliage. The tomatoes are loaded and beginning to turn red.

It's overcast today. We didn't get much rain this last time, just enough to connect the dots on the ground. Maybe we'll get some today.

I hope everyone is having a good day!
