Consolidated Kansas

Hello my fellow chicken friends.... I'm finally back in the States after a month!  I went to India to train a new team there before the Tax season hits us in the face so been MIA for a while.  I'm now back and trying to get back into the swing to things.  Of course I'm hundreds of posts behind so I won't try to catch up from where I stopped last and just go from here.

I'm glad to be back here and catch up on my regular work and home stuff.  I feel like I'm wayyyyyyy behind.  LOL.

Now if I can just get over my jetlag and be productive...:D

Ohhh... I'm enjoying the cooler weather.  It was very humid in India because of the monsoon season.  Rained just about everyday!

I'm kind of jealous! I'd love to see India!! :)

Wow! Lots of posts to catch up on! I've really been enjoying the discussions about broodies.
Here are some pics of my girls and boy that I took recently as well as some of my new chicks. I haven't had too great of luck with my 8 new chicks. I'm wondering if their bedding was maybe moldy and maybe that's what cost me 3 of them. I've moved the remaining 5 and they seem to be doing ok now tho. I got another batch of SLWs and one of them came down with what looked like coccidiosis. With the help of lobelia drops, and oregano oil and raw garlic she pulled out of it and I can't even tell which one she is now.:yesss:
On the young hens in these pics should they be close to POL? I've been watching them but haven't found any eggs yet. I'm afraid I may have to lock them in the coop for a while to get it across to them that they need to lay there and no who knows where in the weeds! When it's so lovely out I hate keeping them locked up!!! :(

I agree with the not helping them hatch unless absolutely necessary, it usually doesn't have a good ending. I have come to realize that the strongest survive & that's how it is. You want them all to live, but sometimes it just isn't meant to be. I have gotten chicks from other breeders as well & sometimes they just don't thrive for some reason or another. They don't grow normally & don't live long. Danz & I were talking about that awhile back.

Well I got my breeder coop all cleaned out & now it's on to cleaning rabbit cages in the garage to get them ready for bringing the rabbits in for winter. I have a to do list for chores that need to get done before cold weather sets in so I'm working my way down it.

Today I'll try to teach the sheep to go out to the field when I let them out, wish me luck. I'll let you all know how it goes. I plan to let the sheep out there first so they can get out of the way of the goats since they're so pushy & territorial.

What kind of rabbits do you have? I just got my first angora and am trying to get the ins and outs of rabbit keeping figured out. I may have to PM you with questions.

Prairie Fleur, it looks like you have some nice birds developing there. I raise Mini Rex rabbits, they stay small & don't need a lot of cage space like bigger ones. Sure send me any questions you have. Rabbits don't need a lot really but they take the cold better than they do the heat, You have to keep them in the shade with plenty of water in the hot summer. I don't raise babies for winter, usually I try to breed so they're born in the spring. However, this spring we had a cold one & I lost some babies to cold snaps. I still have a couple of bucks that were born this year I'm trying to sell. I keep mine in the garage in winter & they do fine in there even though it's not an insulated building.

Prairie the peas look like they are doing good. I think I have two more black shoulder males now that I can see how they are coloring in. And there are a couple more young ones out there I can't tell yet.
I hatched my last peachick egg two days ago. That was the last one of the season. Aw a break until next spring!!!
I've got to get out here shortly and start running a trencher. I am finally going to trench a line to the electric gate so we won't have to have an extension cord across the yard. I already destroyed one of them with the mower so it'll be great to have a line buried that will run it. And I can run another line back and finally get my electronic lock installed so the gate won't get opened in high winds.
I could do all kinds of things with the trencher if I had the thing full time. Rent is expensive though.
We rented it again so we can run the electrical to the new building underground.

Thanks! I'm working at getting into French angoras for fiber and hope to raise them eventually. I'd also like to do Satin angoras sometime. Ive looked for a good book on raising angoras but haven't been able to find one. Don't know if there'd be a good general one on raising rabbits or not. I'll PM you.

Thanks Danz!! I thought they looked pretty good too. I'm pleased with how well they're doing. I've been letting my pair from KSKingBee free range and they've been doing very well, coming back to their pen for feeding and hanging out there some too. I'm still working on taking these little guys.

I wish I didn't have so much money in my breeders. I'd love to let the peas free range. Maybe some day I'll have enough of them I can at least put in a big flight pen for them.
I need to figure out some more housing for the rest of the babies soon. What I don't sell will be sold next spring.

I believe it! When I let mine out I could almost hear them, "WOO HOO Flying Again!!!!!" :D they're curious about my young peas too.
