@zigzag45 This is the SS roo, but he was only 20 weeks old when I took this. He just gets prettier and prettier. He has had some significant frost damage to his comb. My fault. I left the window in their bachelors' quarters closed completely for a couple of nights and he took the hit. it didn't seem to bother the Barred Rocks, though. I'll post girl pictures tomorrow of the two pullets if the weather cooperates. I had planned to butcher the roos, but dang, they are just too pretty to eat.

Those were the end of my American line. I feel my English are so much nicer. Bigger fluffier and fuller bodied. I'm glad they turned out well for you, Chickenrookie.
I'm hoping for warmer weather today. I just have to get a lot of things done outside regardless. I can certainly see a difference in how the birds are cared for when I spend more time out there.
I still have an incubator full of newly hatched chicks I have to find a place for too. How did I end up with so many this early in the year?

I promised to post pictures of my lovely girls -- heritage barred rock and speckled sussex. One more time, I still have their brothers if anyone needs a good/beautiful roo. They are about 25 weeks old and have been laying for several weeks. I was surprised that they started so soon, but pleased. They lay light brown, almost pink, eggs.

nick1234 if you ever decide to come down my way I have Heritage Rhode Island Reds in addition to the Heritage BRs like Danz has & Speckled Sussex. I also have a lot of other breeds like New Hampshire Reds that are another Heritage breed, Barnevelders, Ameraucanas (not Easter Eggers), Swedish Flower Hens, Cream Legbars & several colors of Orpingtons. I also may have some Olive Eggers later on after I get my BCMs grown out. Between the two of us we could enable you a lot! I do normally hatch by order & have a bunch of orders lined up for as soon as the birds get to laying well enough to start hatching.

It's not supposed to be as cold today & tomorrow as it has been, we need a break. I wish it was the end of winter but unfortunately we still have March to get through yet. We have to go get a few more bales of hay today because I had only estimated & we fell short by a few bales. At least we found someone very close to us who has it. I'm still waiting on my ewe to lamb, she's holding out. It would be nice if she picked today or tomorrow to do it while it's warmer. I worry about those little babies right after being born when they're all wet & it's so cold.

@Nick1234 Hey Lawrence person! Welcome and Rock Chalk right back at ya! We haven't gotten our chicks yet. We're actually going to get their living accommodations ready first. (Something we did not do with our goats.) I try to get on here every few days but then I get behind and have to hurry through some posts. I'm sure I'll catch up to you at some point. Good luck!!!

Busy day today and I have so much more to do. I got the brooder house cleaned out and finished right after dark. It needed it badly. All I got done in the building was sweep the floor in the hatching brooding area. DH is out there working on the overhead lights. At least I'll be able to see better when I'm out there.
I had a pretty good hatch yesterday and today. So far I hatched 58 chicks in this 24 hours period. I have no room for them so they are crowded with last weeks chicks at least for the night. Maybe tomorrow if the weather isn't awful I'll get some of these in here moved to my overcrowded brooder house. With luck and better weather I might even get some moved to the new building before the week is over.

That would be nice Danz if you could get your brooder area fixed in the new building so you could use it.

I have two large brooders but no building to put them in so I have to have them in my sunroom till some miracle happens & I have somewhere else to put them.
