Consolidated Kansas

Sorry @chicken danz. Sounds miserable. I was complaining about trying to finish my grow-out coop on Saturday between rain storms. That wasn't so bad, but the fact that everything was mud made it awful. And, I have a slight flaw in my design so I have a water issue to deal with. Not fun.

I try to keep mulch around the coops but as soon as I get raked into position, the girls come running to redistribute it all over the yard. I think they take a hide it so I can't use it anymore because it sure disappears quick.

Greetings fellow Kansas chicken keepers, is there anyone around the wakefield/Manhattan area?
Welcome to our forum. I am sure there are some from out that way. You're a couple hours from me. I love Manhappiness. I used to live in Council Grove and used to go there often. My son and his wife lived there all through college and then worked at Ft. Riley and lived in Manhattan.
Deerfield you are so sweet to me. I really don't know all that much. I just take bird keeping too seriously ....like I take every thing else.
Today was a better day. I never made it to get all the feed I needed to get but I got all the birds fed and got them fresh water. The worst pen was the guinea pen. I swear they found a way to channel water to their pen. The girls were all so covered in mud they couldn't move. I used an entire bale of straw just to lay on top of the mud and water so they could find some dry space. I just tossed a bunch of eggs too because they were packed into the mud so bad I figured they were toast. At least I don't feel entirely defeated right now. I took out some winter clothes again to wear out there in that cold wind.
I loaded the incubators again thinking I would have plenty of room left. Not so much. I had to candle early to make room for the eggs and then discovered I had an entire tray left I didn't have room for. I was going to put some more duck eggs in to hatch but there is simply no place to put them.

Welcome to our thread elxiliath, glad to have you. We're kind of spread out all over the place but it seems like the biggest population is in the eastern half of the state. Tell us about yourself & your chickens.

Danz, how are you doing? Has some of that water subsided? Of course, if it has that only means mud, so out of the frying pan and into the fire.
