I felt the same way at first, but everyone really wants to help and loves looking at and thinking about anything chicken related, so you're really doing us a favor!

Hard week.
We lost 14 of the 15 chicks that we kept from the classroom hatch. Long story, suffice it to say that dogs and chickens don't always mix.

They were supposed to be the kids show birds for this year.

So the question becomes, who has some half feathered or fully feathered young pullets that they need to sell? I'm not super worried about what breed anymore, so long as they are pure bred.
I'm going to wait until the 1st to pick up any birds because we're going out of state for a few days for a graduation, but any leads would be awesome.

Such an awful waste...

Hi,

It has honestly been a few years since I've posted in this group and really on byc. I was in Nursing school so my life was insanely busy for a bit. I graduated in December and of course to celebrate my freedom I started hatching again! Needless to say I have a few chicks you are welcome to. I am unsure if they are male or female, but I ordered 6 double laced blue barnvelder eggs, got 3 extra possible splash and only plan on keeping one or two of this breed. All 9 of these hatched and they are quite the cuties right now. The other bunch I hatched are just barnyard mix so im sure they aren't quite what you are looking for. I don't sell my spare chicks, I just find them happy homes. I just like to hatch more than I am wanting a) because I have quite the history of getting roosters and b) I hatch shipped eggs. Let me know if you are interested! I'll get some pics of all the babies I hatched up here in the next couple days. I had 25 hatch, bought 4 lavender orps, and then my mom picked 8 she liked so I'm down to 21 and technically I'm only supposed to have a maximum of 12 chickens... I already have 6 hens out back. Shhhhhhh... :)

Just as a heads up, I have some pea eggs for sale on the crazy 24 hour auction thread and haven't got any bids so far, might be a chance to pick some up pretty reasonable.
And hello everyone!

Candled my pea eggs I had set the 6th under a hen in the coop, she was doing so well, this afternoon some stinker pushed her out of nest to lay and decided the big eggs had to go! Ate 2! :(

That and I am pretty sure my sis has appendicitis, I am just sick with worry.

Wife decided we needed a few more chicks...low and behold we have these 5 from Atwoods (The words told to me....Arnt they cute)

According to Atwoods they are Mini-Bantams...

Who can tell me what I now have??

Thanks again everyone....I meant to ask this several days ago but I have been keep the other chickens from drowning in the flooded run from all this dang rain...
I believe those are little Wellsummers. But there are many chicks born with that pattern. They could be any form of partridge chick. Just for the more common I'd stick with my guess of Wellsummers because they do come in a bantam size.

I've been wondering about you. You haven't been posting much. I hope your sister is okay. I hatched my first peafowl a few days ago and the first three I had died in the shell before hatching. I have some more about due. I hope I have better luck with them.

We got even more drenching rain during the night and earlier this morning. This is almost as depressing and winter weather. Even the pens that are totally covered are starting to get water logged cause it's seeping from around them.I don't know how on earth I'll ever get caught up after all this. My chances weren't looking promising before the rain.
Today is another hatch day. I haven't even had time to check the eggs or see if they are pipping.

Oh, Danz, that's just miserable. And when is this supposed to stop? We were in the drought zone prior to all this and now we're not, but you weren't even in the drought zone, were you?

Yeah thndrdancr, hope everything is okay.

DD with the tonsillectomy is having a terrible time. Ibuprofen doesn't suit her with her asthma and the Lortab made her itch all over her body, so she can't take that. We're giving her Ibuprofen just because reg Tylenol just doesn't cover it so alternating every 2 hours with those and taking rescue inhaler just to get through it. I have a chest cold so even with DH helping I'm getting up at night and coughing like crazy. I'll be lucky if this doesn't turn into pneumonia.

Trish44, what's the weather report down there. I know you're not up and percolating yet, but after you've had your coffee, check in and let us know what's happening.

Deerfield I wish your DD were doing better. I can't take ibuprofen at all and lortab makes me feel crazy. Try some caffeine along with the ibuprofen. A cup of coffee will often help as an emergency inhaler. Of course in some people caffeine can increase pain but that isn't normal. Maybe some tea or something. Tea is also supposed to be soothing but I don't find it that way unless it is green tea. Peppermint is also a good pain reliever so maybe some peppermint green tea would help.
I remember when I had my tonsils out cold was great. Or maybe I just made myself believe that. Does she have popsicles or something. You wouldn't want the super sweet kind on the stick. The one sin the plastic tube that don't have a lot of flavoring and sugar would work better.
I'm sure you know all that though.
I sure hope your cold gets better as well. You guys are a mess!! I can take a few minutes to think of your problems and quit thinking of mine.
Even with all the rain I can actually see the sun shining this morning. What a nice change. Do you suppose I'll be complaining about the heat and humidity later??? Seems all I do is complain any more. I'm starting to wonder what happened to the happy person I was a while back.
We had three years of drought but had gotten back to a normal level more or less. Now we are in the wet zone and the pendulum swung the opposite direction. I'll just bet it will dry up soon and we won't see a drop of rain for months.

Boy a year or two ago I would have jumped on those pea eggs but now I have no room for them. I've switched from turkeys & peafowl to sebbie geese & ancona ducks. I'm sorry about your sister, I hope she finds out for sure what the problem is & gets it taken care of. That's nothing to mess with for sure.

It's nice to see you back & still raising chickens. I also have seen you around on other sites online. Congrats on finishing Nursing School, that's a real accomplishment to be proud of.

I would think the Dr. could give your daughter another pain medication seeing as how she is allergic to Lortab. I would call when they're open & ask if she is still having that much pain by then. In the meantime I would try giving her lots of popcicles even if they do have sugar, at this point it's about relief.

We only have a 20% chance of rain the next three days but it goes up on Thurs, Fri., & Sat. again. Will it ever stop? It's just a mudhole in & around every pen I have. That last gully washer we had just pushed everything over the edge. I'll be glad for some relief from this rain so things can dry up some. We were talking about the wheat & how it's getting close soon to harvest time & nobody will even be able to get into their fields if this doesn't stop. The river here is out of it's banks now & flooding the fairgrounds, we had been waiting for that to happen because it does every time it rains too much all at once like it has lately. Flood stage for the river is 18 feet & it's up to 22+ feet now & not supposed to subside till Tues. some time. I'm glad we don't live on that side of town. I have not driven over there but I just know what the Weather Channel has been reporting about the level of the river. When it gets too bad the water goes over the highway on the north side of town as well so at those times it's possible for the west & north sides of town to be inaccessible. I guess there are perks to living on this hill, although it is a pain in the winter.
