Hi everyone, A friend of mine is looking for two French Cooper Maran Roosters Black or blue. He is looking for nice quality birds for breeding stock. So if you anyone in eastern Kansas that is trying to find homes for some Maran Roos. Let me know. They will have a good home looking after 30ish Maran hens.

I may have to try the cayenne thing, I've heard it also helps to deworm to some degree. I don't think we have an issue but better to prevent than not.

Here's to hoping the reminder of our Summer is uneventful. First the car wreak, then Tues our new dog (got him in May) got hit in front of our house. People always fly by our house because we are on the edge of town. Well the woman that hit him is a family acquaintance and came in to tell me, well while she was inside Odin freaked and took off. The accident happened at 8:30 a.m. and we didn't find him until 9:00 p.m. He has three fractures, one on his tail vertebra, one on the right leg (minor) and the other on the ball of his hip (may require surgery). Poor fellow is on kennel rest for the next 6 weeks.
It has been a long week already.

Hey, I found some Australorps and some Easter Eggers, ten months old, I was wondering, how long should I keep them confined to the coop? The last time I got got more chickens I got five new girls, and I only kept them cooped for two days, they followed the rest of my hens back into the coop at night no problem. I'm a little more nervous about these girls because they are specific breeds that I really like, the others are Production Reds that I got wholesale becuase some guy in wichita let a seller talk him into buying 1000 chicks and he couldn't sell the hens fast enough, so he sold them at major discount.

You should really keeo them quarantined some place for at least 3 weeks before putting them in the coop. I've found that most chickens will stay in a coop after two or three days unless there are multiple coops to go to.

Well yesterday was my birthday and the only thing I asked for was a day off. It didn't happen. No help around here!!!
We had a huge storm this morning. Really really heavy rain. I haven't ventured out yet to see if anything is damaged. Lots of water sitting around but the chickens are out enjoying themselves so they must have appreciated it.

This may sound stupid, but maybe this so-called AI (bird flu) could be caused by the medication they put in the poultry feed. It is a known fact that too much use of antibiotics weakens the immune system. The majority of the problem is in the large poultry complexes, and the heavily medicate the feed. I am just suspicious of government reports that may protect large corporations.

There are no data limits on 4G internet. Most plans start out at 10 gig but you can add another gig for like $15 a month. You will never be kicked off because you've exceeded your data. You will just pay more. It's much cheaper to add a couple extra gigs than it is to just pay for overages. You can also track your usage and get alerts when you have used over 75% of your data. We run 14 gig for all the phones and two internets users that are on 24 seven. I limit my on line time but my DH is terrible about leaving multiple pages up all the time. I keep telling him to shut it down when he is sleeping or not here but he doesn't. The months you really have to watch usage is during November, December and July. That's when all the advertisements are streaming constantly. I doubt very seriously you would ever go over ten gigs if you aren't on social media sites a lot. With satellite you are going to pay a lot more for heavy uses and they will kick you of if you go over. We could get by on far far less with a little common sense.
It really disgusts me that all these videos are imbedded in advertisements and such. Also people post videos on their facebook pages and they start playing when I look at my home page when they are friends. I haven't checked to see if I can stop them from doing that. I really could care less if my customers have videos of their dogs or cats on their home page!!! LOL
You should call and talk to a sales rep and get more facts.

danz you can turn off the videos on FB by going into your settings & turning off the autostart. I hated that too when they started letting them just randomly play like that. If I want to watch one fine, but otherwise I don't want them starting up. There is no way that I know of to turn off the ads though.

I'm not sure of what is offered in the area you are going to relocate, but here in southeast Kansas the rural cooperatives are converting to fiber optics and it is very rare to have interrupted internet service. I still have the internet when the satellite TV service is off( which is often during bad weather).

That would be great Ralph, we have seen no signs yet of any fiber optics coming our way.

I may have a young one out in my growout pen, I'll check later & let you know. If I have a roo out there I don't need him.

I'm so sorry about your dog, I hope he recovers well. I had several dogs run over when I lived outside of Derby, people just didn't slow down on that road & some had accidents because of it. I didn't feel sorry for them when they were driving the way they were on a dirt road.

It's supposed to be really hot all weekend. I'm going to have to go out in a bit & spray things down & give my rabbits some ice. I'm really ready for some cooler weather, not cold but just a bit cooler for awhile.

It is SO hot already. The birds are free-ranging today so they will be in the best shadey spots around the yard, they love the locus saplings in back!
I have two broody hens and really need some more chicks to fill an order in Oct. for capons, so I hope the ladies have better luck in this heat. They are in more open locations so they should get at least a bit of airflow. My Wyandotte hen Winnifred has been at it for a month now, she lost the last batch in the heat. I've noticed this time that she is taking more breaks for water and scratching so maybe she figured it out LOL.

Our pup Odin is hurting but seems to be doing okay. He hates being in the kennel, but seems to prefer that to being out in the open where the kids can get him!

Well there's always lots of hidden information but bird blue is a real thing. The only interest the government really has in it is trying to prevent it because it can mutate into something that humans catch. Now I'm not saying that perhaps it didn't travel to this part of the world by some government entity, however the first cases on this continent were in Canada.

Well I went out and got a makeshift building moved and put up an additional fence panel and some more netting so I can move some chickens to some temporary quarters for now. I had to come in and cool down for a while because after that storm this morning it is extremely humid and hot out there.
I am so glad that I got my feeding done early. I normally don't like feeding until evening when it's hot but It's nice to know I don't have to go back out there and battle the heat again.
When I do go back out I have to catch the jubilees and move them to the pen I just set up. Later I can start taking down the old pen and tear out the floor in the building they are in so I can replace it. Then eventually move that house elsewhere for later use. I really am tired of working in this extreme heat and humidity though. I am kind of nervous about this whole thing cause my blind albino turkey has always lived in that house with that pen and I know she'll have a problem getting around when I move her. Poor girl. She has had different house mates several times but her location hasn't changed.
