Consolidated Kansas

Well I keep trying to answer posts and get called away for this or that and never get it finished. Sharol the birds are shaping up very well. Anytime you want to get rid of that mottle I'm your girl. I lost my hen that looked more like her and I haven't grown any chicks up to replace her. I really need to pick a few chicks for myself for breeders and just keep them separate instead of letting people buy them. It's so hard to decide which ones are going to be good breeders before they have grown. My current mottled rooster only had a couple of spots on him when he was young. He's just a little over a year now and he gets more and more. I am sure the jubilee roo will develop more spots as well although he looks really good for his age. He's got a lot more growing to do.
@Dani4Hedgies , all those orpingtons are 100% English. Just sayin so you weren't confused.
I had a very busy day yesterday and was gone all afternoon. So I am way behind today. My fencer is on his way so I am going to be busy once again today. But Yay!!! I don't mind a bit to get this done. I am once again very unhappy with human beings. I keep being reminded why I prefer to stay out here in the country and raise animals instead of living in town surrounded by people. Yesterday I had a cart thing completely full of heavy groceries, potatoes etc. I had tried to lift it up to put it in the back of my car and the bin attached to the carrier slipped and flipped me so I landed hard on the pavement. There was a guy standing not 15 feet from me in the parking lot and he just stood there and stared then went about his business. I was really banged up and in pain. If I ever saw someone do something like that I would run over to them and help them up and make sure they were okay. I can't believe people care so little. I really had trouble getting up after that. My family worries about me a lot and are constantly asking me to carry my cell phone outside because I do fall an awful lot. But every time I do it falls out of a pocket or something and I have to end up calling it to find it. I don't have a carrier that will work for this phone and they are hard to get out of a carrier to use anyway.
If any of you have a suggestion that would help me keep my phone on myself without danger of it getting wet or falling out of a pocket I am listening.
I got a good chuckle this morning. I saw Brittany with Yeti (my puppy) and she was trying to train him, as an older LGD dog will. The geese were in the front yard and a gander jumped on a goose to breed her. Brittany ran over to them and took her paw and knocked the gander off the goose. Anything to protect her charges. It was hilarious.

Danz,
Im so sorry to hear that man just stood there that is unreal I live in the middle of Kansas City and I have to say if that had happened here you would have had a ton of people rush over to help you Im sorry he did not. What kind of cellphone do you have? Lol clearly I still have more to learn about Orps but as they are quickly becoming my favorite bird I can't wait to come see you and see all the colors they come in

Love the dog story.

Everyone loves Oreo. I didn't get a picture of her back end, I'll have to do that. It has more white with black spots. I've had 3 offers for her so far, LOL. What color will I get if I hatch her eggs (with the Jubilee roo)? Just asking. I think she just started laying. I found a pullet egg on the floor of the coop and then one in the run the next day, and she has been hanging out around the nesting areas.

I've gotten a little more interested in the genetics since I've been looking at the Campines, and got to thinking about the possible combinations of colors in the Orps. Of course the only pure ones will be the Jubilees (color wise), but with the White and Lavenders? And blacks? Hmmm. They might be interesting. I need a book on color genetics, I guess.

Quote: I have a holster thing that clips to my belt. I lose phones out of my pockets, too, and I nearly always wear jeans, so there is a firm waistband to hook to. It is under my shirt (I never tuck in anything) so it also stays dry even in the wettest conditions unless I fall into water.

I was an idiot for selling the other chick I was raising that was marked so good. I always think I can raise more but so far I haven't seen any marked just like I want. I am so picky. If you breed oreo to the jubilee you will end up with some mottles but they would most likely have some red feathers mixed in. YOu may however get a few chicks with the proper markings. I think the process of the mottles breeding is to continue breeding offspring and possibly crossing back with a black until you get the red feathers out. It's a process.

Quote: I had a clip on pouch for my last phone but this one is just a little bigger and won't fit. I hate to keep buying new gear and then for some reason having to switch phones and buy all new stuff.

danz I buy all of our phone stuff on eBay, it's so much cheaper than anywhere else. You definitely should keep your phone with you outside as much as you fall. That's awful that guy didn't even come over to see if you were OK, geez what is wrong with people these days.

Danz, if there is a Dollar Tree in your area, they have a good selection of phone holders. I have an all leather clip holster that I got there, and for only one dollar.
I got my other eye lens installed the 5th of Feb., so I am seeing things in a new light. But that sometimes creates another problem, if the light is too bright. I now need sunglasses, which I hardly ever wore.

Gosh, I love you all. You are a funny, clever, smart, caring, and hard working bunch. And with such diversity including age, gender, country, small town & urban. I enjoy the conversations, tips and encouragement you share with all of us.
