Consolidated Kansas

Hi everyone! I have been on BYC for almost a year. I just found this thread. I am located in Topeka. I have one adult duck, she is an Ancona. I also have two drakes, a Rouen and a Runner. In January I ordered 5 newly hatched female Rouen from Metzger farms. They are all a blast. I'm looking forward to keeping up with this thread.
Welcome to the forum. I have anconas and so does Trish44. They are awesome ducks . I have other ducks as well and used to hatch a lot. Now I tend to just hatch a few and sell most the girls and eat or sell the boys. Ducks are great layers and keep the bug population down. I can't imagine not having at least a few around. I hate butchering but I love eating duck. I'm within an hour of you. I often go to Topeka to the doctor or for major shopping. Things I can't buy on line!!!
Thanks @sharol , I thought I had posted that One Wing was doing well but maybe not. She's sitting here next to my chair. She just loves having some one around her. I have noticed though that when company comes now she tends to go hide in the bedroom. Maybe my granddaughters at Christmas freaked her out. It was like having two tornadoes going through the house.
I sold some birds today that again I had intended to keep for myself. I keep doing that. But when the money is there for the taking I have a hard time not selling. This gal did offer me $1200 for Yeti and I refused. I must be loosing my mind. How can a puppy be worth that much? I offered to sell her Winston but she wanted the puppy, not an adult.
@RooksMom , I wanted to welcome you back even though I can't help you out. I don't even know off hand where Harvey county is.

I really want to get some chickens that lay White eggs to offset all the colors I have. Anyone have any ideas on breeds? I want something pretty and reasonably calm. I don't need anything aggressive.

Danz I thought you might enjoy some of the pics I took today. I'm really loving the birds I got from you!!! They're finally coming into their own now! I'm really loving my silkies too!!! They're So adorable and they're very calm.

Pics #s 1, 2, 5, 6, and 7 are my blue partridge silkies. #3, 8, 9 is my gorgeous SS too from Danz and the last pic is the pullet from her. #4 is one of my lavender copper Marrans roos. #10 is my partridge brahma hen from Danz and 11 is the only Lav Ameraucana hen I have out of all the chicks I got last year. She's currently trying to act broody but is so flighty there no way she'd ever actually hatch out chicks. I think she just wanted a break from laying!!! Silly girl!

Thanks for the pictures. I love seeing my babies grown up. Hope we can get you fixed up with some new ones this year.

I hope so too!!!! I really wish I could come up and see all your birds but don't know if I'll be coming thru your area or not. There's so Many places I'd like to get to!!! If anyone from southwest ks is going to Danz' maybe we could work something out. I'd be happy to help with fuel to get my chicks home if I'm not able to go myself!

How about some Breda Fowl? They are such nice birds. The eggs aren't large, but they weigh in at medium (from my 9 month old pullets).

My favorite hen of all time was a Campine, but in no way are Campines calm. They aren't mean or troublemakers, but they are pretty talkative and active. My hen's white eggs were almost translucent in appearance.

I'm in the process of hatching some Campine eggs, and there may be some extras. Of course you are quite a way from eastern kansas.

As long as they're not mean or extremely flighty I'm good with them. Just makes me sad when they're so extremely terrified of me and I can't even be around them because they flee in terror squawking all the way and upsetting everyone else. Lol let me look up compines and see what they're like!

https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/1077842/chicken-breed-focus-campine is a fairly new thread about Campines. My little Scout was half the size of her broodmates, and bossed everyone around. Even my husband liked her.

They are funny, delightful, talkative little birds. When Scout started squatting at about 5 months she became lots more friendly and would hop up on my lap when I sat in the run. She was raised in a brooder and was the first chick to get up to the roost (about 5" off the surface of the shavings). They are NOT meat birds, too thin and wiry, but they lay lovely medium to large white eggs. Her eggs were about the same size as the other birds.

Obviously I really like them (or at least the one I had). I'm looking forward to handling the chicks that hatch (fingers crossed because they are shipped eggs) and taming them enough that they will be friendly, too.

People say they are flighty, but Scout wasn't terribly flighty.

I will be going to visit Danz in a month or two so if Kansas City is closer to anyone needing chicks let me know I may have room (Grin)

Ok so my flock is all tagged so now time for everyone favorite game what breed and gender is this chicken?

Dani, thanks for the offer! Unfortunately you're on the exact opposite end of the state from me. We're not that far from the Colorado border.
