Consolidated Kansas

@TakenBackBre I have loads of chicks here right now, so many I had to get out another brooder. I'm trying to fill orders but it's difficult with multiple breed orders from each person. They tend not to hatch all in the same hatch so then I have chicks waiting for others to hatch before I can fill orders with them. It's kind of crazy. I have 3 broody hens also sitting on eggs & I sure don't need those chicks but they were insistent. I take that back, I do need the Cochin chicks to hatch, I have an order for those. I sure hope this hatch ongoing today produces some chicks that will fill some orders or I have no idea where I'm going to keep more chicks.

Anderson Lowe those don't look like Frizzles to me either.

Crazy busy day and I'm still waiting for another customer who is showing up late. She lives so far away I can't complain and she keeps coming back. I was gone all afternnon and had customers this morning. I got home and had to feed and water so I am just now sitting down for the first time since morning. Wish I could go to bed but this last customer is going to make me some money. I went and got a lot of produce today so the birds will have some treats for a few days. I can't afford to do that often. I'm hoping once summer kicks in I can find some people with extra produce that will sell cheap so I can give the birds a lot more. When I was still working people would bring it to work and just leave it laying in the break room for whomever wanted it. I sure miss that. I had a hatch today and haven't even looked in the incubator. I haven't had time to get a brooder bin cleaned and set up for them so I'm just going to leave them until the morning. Maybe they'll do better without me opening the door and peaking in to see what's happening. I should have another bunch of goslings hatching tomorrow or the next day as well.
just can't seem to put enough hours into a day.

I'm new at chicken math ... But I want to learn!! I have a small flock of Australorps but I want to add some "color" to the eggs and flock. Suggestions? I've fallen for Marans but having difficulty finding some in my area.

There are so many I want ..... ;)

There are several colors of Marans. There are a couple breeders who have black copper marans but that won't give you a lot of color difference in chickens but you will have darker eggs. Give us an idea of what colors of eggs and what colors of chickens you are looking for. @Trish44 and @KsKingBee both have black copper marans. Welcome to the group as well.

Well my last customer left at 10:40 last night! What a long long day that was. Then of course I was too wound up to sleep. I've got a another full day today. I'm ready for a break.

Thanks! I've been in touch with @Trish44 :) I THINK I'd like some Black/Blue Copper Marans .. maybe a Wellsummer? That's probably enough to give my husband a heart attack for this year. I'd eventually like to add some blue, green, etc. Ameraucana, Lavender Orpington .... just about anything I guess. ;) We live on a farm in north central area (near Mankato) and most of what I've been able to find for sale are south Kansas.

My daughter, near Smith Center is also interested in finding some Guineas.

Thanks @chicken danz Hope you got some rest and that things go better today!

Easter Eggers are a good choice for a variety of color. You never know what you are going to get. I picked out 4 that looked different from each other a few years ago and I ended up with an enormous variety of colors of hens and 3 shades of green eggs. This is how they turned out.

I got to go spend time with Lizzy. @lizzyGSR last night. It's been over a year since I saw her. She looks so cute with her little baby tummy. I wish I hadn't been so tired and had had more time, but we were both really tired.
DH and I were at Orcheln's a few days ago getting my new wagons. I went by the chick bins. I was so surprised. The cost of chicks was anywhere from $3 to $5.99. The pan fry birds were like $3.59 each. That's insane. By the time they had them fed out they would be mighty pricey meat and they won't get all that large either.
I really can't imagine why people would pay that much for hatchery birds compared to the prices for some good quality birds unless it's just the convenience of location and spur of the moment purchases. Just voicing my opinion here.
I've decided to sell my red golden pheasants. Really hard decision. They are total eye candy and every one oohs and ahs about them. They are the first of several things I'm going to eliminate. I made an offer to one person who has an order for chicks and he said he'd take them. Of course they just started laying and I can think of all the money I could make. I'm just trying to keep the peace around here and reduce some work. Since their pens are permanent pens I plan to try to move or build bigger houses on the back side of the pens so I can use them for other birds. The plan is to eliminate everything that isn't a permanent pen and try to get all the chickens in the new building. Of course that means we really really have to finish the runs for the building and get all the doors installed.
I've got a customer coming for peafowl here in a bit and then later have to deliver some duck hatching eggs to town and help a friend dig up some bushes. We plan to go to the nursery and buy a few plants for the gardens.
I have two more customers scheduled for tomorrow. I am so waiting to have a day to myself I can actually get something done.
I cleaned out a chicken house yesterday and put the poo on the garden (that still isn't ready). I made a slight change to it to keep the bedding in it cause it tended to fall out the door. Now I hope the ladies don't object to laying there since things have changed. They were sure checking out the straw that fell on the ground.
