Consolidated Kansas

Glad to see you again @tazcat70 . What kind of chicks did you get?
Everyone is wanting something capable of laying eggs. It sure is tempting to just sell a bunch of birds and have some spare time. But most of the ones I want to sell aren't hens. I have so many other types that are a chore every day to keep fed. It's be nice to get down to just a handful. I've got lots of boys that need butchered but of course no one wants to butcher their own meat. So when it warms up enough I'll be packing the freezers again. I've got lots of chicks hatched but so many people just want pullets. Most of my breeds aren't sexable at hatch.

Good morning everyone!
More rain...
I swear, if my run gets any muddier...
This is getting old already. Ugh.

I recently took my dog with me down to the coop. I wasn’t sure what her interest in them would be, but it was great! She sniffed at them and then totally ignored them. I’m so happy about that. Now I know she can go with me to do chores.
Also, my chickens were VERY interested in her. They looked like curious little old ladies with their necks all stretched out trying to get a look at her. LOL

@chicken danz Thank you! I bought 2 black sex links and 4 EE pullets.
I’ve butchered a couple roos, but they were young and it wasn’t worth it, meat wise. Culling then from the flock was definitely a good thing.

Those should be good layers. It seems that is what every one is lookng for right now. By the way, just mentioning I have 3 Great Pyrenees pups that are chicken trained. Sure would like to get them to their forever homes.

It's been raining here quite a bit too & we sure could use some sunshine. I know it would help my mood a lot. I think the chickens would be glad too. I've been putting off cleaning out my coops till it warms up a little more & we have a decent day to do it, hopefully this week. I'm really tired of the gray days & cold.

@tazcat70 that sounds like some good layers to be. I've been toying with getting a couple of black sex links from someone local to me. I have 3 Cinnamon Queens growing out that will be joining my main laying flock before long. A lot of my flock is getting older & not laying as much any more. I've been losing them one at a time to old age. I've been getting a few here & there to add in & replace the old ones. The only thing I found about the black sex links is they tend to be broody so much. That's aggravating to me when I just want them for eggs.

I've always got broody layers it seems. But at least the layers I have are docile and don't pick my hands so I just keep gathering eggs. I'm having more and more people ask me for eggs to eat because you can't get any at the store. I'm just keeping my egg sales to my family and a couple of close friends. Later when they are running out my ears no one will want them.:thThat's life with chickens I guess.
We're finally supposed to have a warm day today. I have so much I want to do while it's nice before more rain tomorrow. I really need to do a lot of butchering but I so hate that. I also need to dip my birds again cause the wet weather has caused a lot of poultry lice. I hate those things. They don't bit me but I can feel them crawling on me.
