He's been killing watersnakes. Cottonmouths essentially don't exist in Kansas.

Yes, the river is a couple miles away and an neighbor has a pond behind us. We think they are coming from the neighbors pond it’s all overgrown around it.

The snakes that we have been see look like the cottonmouth and they have the white mouth

Watersnakes also have the white mouth. Cottonmouths haven't ever been confirmed in any county in Kansas except for the southeasternmost one, and even then only rarely. Just FYI
