Consolidated Kansas

Just got back from a Texas wedding, you can definitely tell that they are in a different growing zone. My in-laws roses were looking like they were nearing the end, and I have only had 1 bloom so far. It rained twice while we were down there.

Before I left, I moved the baby chicks @6 weeks, out to the big coop. They are still in a dog kennel so not really part of the flock, but can get associated with them. I also planted some Canna's and some flower seeds. I still haven't finished the big run that we are doing, so I haven't worked on my food garden. My sister has planted a really big one, so I may bum some from her.

The St. Bernard that I found is still with us. She is a REAL sweetheart. We are calling her Katy. Even with posting on Craigslist, the local radio station, and a few lost pet websites we still have not been contacted. My husband decided that we would keep her.

I think that she must have been dumped, poor girl.

Ok, that is all I can think of on my travel rattled brain.

Interesting story about the people looking for a place to rent in the country. I came home from work and found a note where someone had dropped by hoping to rent my place. They are relocating from Tenn. Wish I could help either family but have not seen any place in the area for rent. I have been so busy with work and planting the gardens I have not mowed like I should. Guess it kinda makes my place look a little vacant. All mowed now as of last night.
At the Feed store the other day and a guy from "Ideal" was there with thousands of chicks. I need intervention; So now I have 6 welsumers and two silkies. Nice deal that I didnt have to order 15 birds. Any way he is supposed to be back May 30 or 31st.
Thanks for the help on spelling Katy!
By the way has any one ever here ever seen someone turn a baby chick over in their hand and use weather it rolls over or lays there to sex it? I think its like the sexing needle my self. The Ideal guy did this. Later I read you can sex welsummers by their head markings. Dark eyeliners and triangles. Two roos and 4 pullets I am (hopefully) thinking.
Ok Have a great day all.

I agree, and in a few weeks we will be saying "I miss the rain."

Hi,

I'm new to the forum. My family and I live in Leavenworth, Kansas which is in NE Kansas, about 45 minutes from downtown Kansas City. We currently live on post at Ft. Leavenworth but will be moving to a home on 80 acres next month. I'll finally be able to have my chickens!! I can't wait!

Hola, Pollo!!

I'm in Lawrence, not far from you at all! Let me know when you're ready for birds. I've got an incubator full of test eggs right now!
