I keep hoping I'll win the power ball so I can get some deacent vehicles, buy this farm, build a new house on it and raise meat goats and birds.

I feel so stupid right now! I JUST figured out what BOSS was.

Here I was thinking it was some type specially manufactured protien product that I was going to have to special order.

I've used it off and on all along. Silly me. Why did I not figure out that BOSS=Black Oil Sunflower Seeds?

Go ahead. Someone needs to slap the stupid out of me!

We close on our new Farm on Oct 3rd. Found a good pasture and great house with 2 60x30 outbuildings on slabs. all for under 100K.. This will be my first house that I own!

I really wish I had more ground and could have bought it at the price the rest of this farm sold for. I just wasn't sure what I was going to do with mine at the time. My little bit of crop land normally pays most of my property tax. That isn't going to happen this year though. Mother nature wasn't very nice to me.
I also wish there were more outbuildings. A tornado came through before I bought this place and tore down the only nice big building here. The others were in pretty sad shape and all but one has been torn down now. They were just eye sores and unusable.
I actually have a small green house I moved here from my house in Council Grove when I sold it on contract. It is just sitting there and isn't any where I can use it. I haven't decided where to put it yet. The problem of course with it was heating it in the winter. We just don't have enough winter sun to do that through the cold months. I can't afford to run another heater especially trying to keep some heat in all these chicken houses.

Grats! I am jealous. My third of an acre is just not enough. We moved out of the city to a small town. Now I know what I really wanted was a farm. Stupid housing market makes it nearly impossible to sell now. But at least we still have a house. Lots of folks don't anymore. Blessings counted.

Off topic I have a regional chicken raising question. Is avian pox common in NEKS? I have a roo (who's about to be dinner anyway... little jerk) who has what looks a lot like pox on his comb. But he's had them now for quite a while I think. I thought at first they might be sparring wounds but the other roo doesn't have any. And so far none of the other chooks do either. And I never see them fight. I only see them squabble when one roo catches another roo mating. Then he climbs on top of them both! And that lasts until I interrupt them, letting them know that I'm the alpha roo. I'll upload a pic if I can get him to hold still.

And that reminds me. Any wintering advice would be appreciated. I'm hoping the new hen house will be done before any hard freeze. And that will be a deep litter wood structure. I will probably heat the waterer. I have NHRs and BRs who proved very heat tolerant.
