Consolidated Kansas

Well, when I get out to the country it will be my cows and such....so I will still be to blame. Oh well I can live with that.

Well I get the feeling that if I ever get my farm I will be a homebody. For now I love to get out, nothing about this tiny apartment feels right and I hate living in town. I've fallen in love with this little place about 8 miles away and have to drive by it every chance I get, you know, "just to make sure it's still on the market incase I win the powerball tomarrow", lol.
ETA: I just can't stand being inside, Not that I can't stand being home. But at this place we don't have much of an "outside".

I guess I lucked out. My hubby is a homebody, too, so he doesn't complain about my birds keeping us homebound. He has goats, and they require quite a bit of attention, too. Then there's the dogs. Lots of mouths to feed. I think my animal population went up when the kids left home.

The only thing my hubby complains about regarding my chickens is when they get out and get in the shop like some of my free rangers do. They poop on EVERYTHING!

And that is why my hubby put his foot down long ago about geese......he doesn't want them pooping in his shop.

LOL! That reminds me of some of the things my Dad used to say. My mom liked geese. She had a pet goose when she was a kid. My Dad hated them, and didn't let her keep them very long. Dad had a dirt construction busines. One time her geese went along and chewed off all the insulation from the electrical wiring on his trucks and trailers. He was NOT a happy camper!

Dad never minced any words. When my hubby and I got a couple geese we loved watching them by our pond. We had a very large sandpit pond, and of course the geese were around it most of the time. My Dad's only comment on them was, "You better be careful with those geese. They will s**t your pond full!"

We never get to go on vacation. Hell, we hardly get to go down the street. Between work and chores... On the other hand its pretty dang pleasant at my house. Just wish I had more land... for more critters.... and more chores. Wait... no, uh...

Well I went to the State Fair again today. My son's second grade class went for a field trip and I volunteered to go.

So fun again the second time! I saw another bird "i just HAVE to have" haha! It's a black jersey Giant! And WOW- this thing was huge! I want one of those! Does anyone know anything about them? Are they good egg layers? I don't want it if it's just a so-so egg layer. I'm already making an exception with my polish I ordered. I hate to get any more that are just mouths to feed and no pay back.

My neighbor and I have a good system for going on vacation. They take their family to Disney for about 8 days every year and do other various mini trips and I feed their horses and take care of them. In return, she does the same thing for me, so that we can go places too. It works out nice. I figure she won't have any issues at all in caring for my chickens, and since I'm trying to build a coop that is straight forward and easy to use (like getting eggs from the outside) I'm hoping it will be easy to have other people "bird sit" for me when we're gone. I do love being at home, but I also like going out, too. I'm definitely an outdoor kind of person, but I love taking my horses on trail rides to lakes -- like Kanopolis, Clinton Lake, or Big Hill! So fun! I have a group of girl friend that all have horses and we plan a little camping trip in October each year. We just sleep in our trucks or in tents. (I buy an electric site and then bring my tent, blow up mattress and an electric blanket!) I may rough it, but I don't freeze. I even bring an electric space heater to plug in and keep my tent toasty. We bring a laptop and movies and then squeeze in there and stay up and watch movies. It's a blast.
