Consolidated Kansas

Been a busy day so far . Jenny, Seramaslovers and her husband came up this morning and took home 5 Seramas. Yay! I do hope she has really good luck with them.
I need to figure out where to put some fence panels so I can move some birds around. I have some baby ducks in the house and I can't handle the smell any longer. Love my ducks but they really do stink when they are confined. And I have a few more hatching out today.
I so wish I had everything done and all the pens and the houses ready so I could just relax and enjoy my birds.

Oh! I'm so glad she got some for her little girl! Did she bring her daughter with her?
Was she able to pick out "her own" chicken?

I remember how much my daughter loved her chickens. She had a Houdan hen that she called "Bad Hair Day." It was her favorite.

Her husband came but she is going to surprise her daughter. She got 2 pairs and then one younger very gentle little cockerel I still had in the brooder house. I think it was just the right age to become a pet chicken. Jenny is great. She really loves the chickens. I was so glad to meet her.
I'm accomplishing nothing today. I just can't seem to get going on a project.

I bet they really do enjoy them. And with pairs-- they will have MORE!! hehe! That is so neat that you got to meet them.

Ivy, cute name "bad hair day".

I worked all day, but feel like once again I did NOT accomplish a lot. Geez. My back is killing me and I'm exhausted. I sanded down both windows, removed the hardware and got the first coat of paint on them. I also had to chip out a lot of the old putty down to the glazing points and put new window caulking in there. I haven't painted those spots. Got it smoothed out with a putty knife. It was just tedious is all. Then I removed the warped piece of plywood covering the tool storage area and cut a new one and got it put on. I've run out of trim, so my DH ran to Lowes to go pick up more. I might be able to get started on the roof tonight.. but we'll see. I think what I'd really like is a drink.

Whew, why is it I can work so hard and still the coop nearly looks the SAME. Ugh. I'm going to throw myself a party when this is done.

Sounds like a great idea! I could use a party myself.
I just put up a 10X 10' Kennel and put netting on top so I can move my turkeys. When I get them moved over there I am going to put these ducks in the pen they are in. Reason being it has chicken wire, a secure bottom and a small building with a heat lamp. I am just about worn out for the day though. I don't know if I can get this done tonight or not. DH has starting putting wood fencing along the bottom of the Mandarin aviary and it's looking great. I bought a bin last night to make a filter for the duck pond but have to make a trip to Emporia to buy bulk head fittings so I can run the piping to it. Can't chance any leaks since the filter will be outside of the pond.
I sure wish I had the energy to keep going.
I talked to a neighbor to see if he would be interested in doing some work for me. He said he would trade some labor for those rocks I gathered up for the Mandarin pond before I bought the flagstone. I think that could work out ok. Problem is he works at the grain elevator and they are working 7 days a week right now, so it may be awhile before I get any work out of him.

I agree the party sounds like a great idea hawkeye. Danz it sounds like you really have your hands full if I was closer I would be happy to give you a hand. What type of filter to you use for your ponds? I know foster and smith carrys some nice big filter kits and my uncle made a couple big filters out of plastic 55 gal drums with a pump and barley straw I'm not sure exactly how he had them set up but they kept his 2000 and 4500 gal koi ponds pretty clean.

Rittert, I built ponds for several years. I normally made in-pond filters which were better than ones I could buy wholesale. I'm making an out of pond, upflow filter where the water flows upwards and leaves the sediment in the bottom, then flows out the top back to the pond.

Well, I didn't get ANY of the modifications done on my chicken tractor yesterday. I ended up helping with other things and we had company. Sure wish I had finished that enclosure. The wind has been gusting pretty strong, and the lakenvelders in there need food today. If I put food in their feeder the wind will just whip it out. I guess I will have to make a food-pudding for them until I can get the modifications done.

I have 4 old english pullets that I've decided not to keep. I'm just going to keep my black breasted reds. Fortunately I think I've found a home for the ginger reds and blue reds. I hate to not keep them. They are nice and they are so sweet, but I can only keep so many....even with the new set of cages I built. I really want to focus on the BBreds.

I started some eggs under a broody black copper marans. So far so good. She is being pretty serious about her brooding. I hope she has a good hatch. The chicks are for someone else. I really don't want to raise chicks this time of year!

I will be going to the poultry show in Sedalia, MO on Sat. I "think" I will be taking some bantam black cochins. I'm not sure yet. They would be a late entry, so I need to call the show secretary tomorrow and see if I can work it out. I'll take my camera and hopefully post some pictures when I get back.
