Consolidated Kansas

Whenever is fine. I understand. No worries. I had some hatched for me by Mike and I worried and worried about how I was going to get them home. Then a fellow BYCER was coming home from a wedding in KC and everything just worked out perfectly. They were a couple of mos old by then, so you could imagine how much worrying I did.

Anyway, now that I am the one holding the chicken I just wanted to tell you that it is no problem. If it starts to become one, I will let you know, so don't worry.

Thanks. I'd be glad to supply you with eggs or chicks come spring. I hatched a couple thousand this past year. Even when I try not to hatch I still do. I just put 42 Serama eggs in the incubator cause they were just sitting around. They started laying like crazy when the weather cooled down. Wish my other chickens would. I am so far behind in egg orders. I can't squeeze them out of the hens or I would.
So Hawkeye, where are you? Is every thing alright. Not a peep (No pun intended!) from you today.

I'm here!! I'm like the living dead right now, I'm soooo tired! It was a preschool day, and then as soon as we got back home I dove right back into working on the coop. I got the trim put up on the storage shed side and then nailed down the flashing, tar paper and shingled it all this afternoon. I did some other things on it too- but still it is staring back at me like "ha, ha! I look practically the SAME as when you started!". I figure when the coop starts to talk back to me, I'm quitting for the night.

So then I was dog tired and the grade school called me right when I was about to start dinner at 6pm. They said I had to pick up my frozen foods fund raiser thing that my oldest had to sell out of the catalogs. So we drove back into the little town, and then hit up all the houses except one to deliver their stuff. I finally got home and said FORGET about cooking. Everyone got peanut butter sandwiches and white rice. My plan is to work on the doors tomorrow!!! That is if I wake up alive and well tomorrow. My arms are shredded from lifting that stupid pneumatic nail gun to put on the finish trim.

ShannaHarle- don't know if I already said so.... but

and to our Kansas thread! I've never heard of your town, either! But that's really not surprising for me, I don't really know a lot of Kansas towns. I can get myself to KC and the surrounding area and that's about it.

Oh- and the lakes! I do drive out to the nicer lakes that have horse trails and ride my horses out there. Favorites are Kanopolis, Big Hill (near Parsons) and Melvern Lake. They have GREAT trails.

Renee, I hope you start to turn around soon and feel better! I am interested in that stuff Danz told you about! I think next time I get sick, I'll give it a try! Sooo.. do I dare ask... did you get all your painting done?

If it makes you feel better- you can ask me if I have my coop finished! LOL

Taz, wow, there really are a lot of people in the Wichita area. I just had no idea! It seems like everyone is up north. I hope that wasn't your chicken that got lost in the mail over the summer here in Wichita. I'm sure there are lots of other people shipping chickens in.

White City is tiny. It is over near Council Grove. All the years I lived there I used to go to White City to the lumber yard because they had hard to get lumber and great prices. There's a bunch of other little towns around there too that you've probably never heard of, Parkerville, Dunlap, Wilsey, Dwight, Alta Vista. Parkerville is probably the smallest; like maybe 6 houses or so.
Hawkeye, I see why you weren't on yesterday. What a busy day you had.
I tried cleaning yesterday but the house looks worse today than it did when I started. I just have too many projects going on and they have filtered inside because I can't stand to be outside working on them. All the parts of my duck pond filter are piled on the dining table along with several other things. Yeah, I just cleaned it off too.
I have all my boxes of Lemax sitting all around and the cats are using the outside cardboard to sharpen their claws so there's piles of cardboard pieces everywhere. Even though I did have them all cleaned up.
I have a bunch of new fuzzy butts in the incubator. Some eggs I had found in some hiding places around the yard. That means sorting out chicks to different bins again in the brooder.
This is my last day for PT, thank goodness. Now maybe I can resume some semblance of getting things done again.
I have some people coming this evening for Seramas, bantam polish and a pair of pheasant, so I have to get back home from town at a decent time to meet them. This is for 4H kids so I won't really be making any money.

Oh, I can picture your kitchen table loaded with parts for your pump! funny! That is how my dad works. He brings everything into the kitchen and works on it there (when I was growing up). He used to rebuild all of our carburetors on the table for our cars, motorcycles, etc.. Good times.

On the up side of selling your birds, even though you won't make a lot of money, it will be a few birds that you won't winter over. So that will be nice?? Good luck on your last day of PT and I hope you enjoy your company tonight while you show off your birds. Personally, I think that would be a blast!

I'm running to Lowes this morning! My shopping list consists of everything I need to make DOORS!!! YAY!! (and hinges, and locks) Going to buy the vinyl for the flooring and some other misc. stuff that I need. Then I plan on working out there all day today putting my doors together and getting started on the windows too. Going to buy the thick piece of wood for the window sill that I planned on. We dry fitted the windows in last night and my DH looks at it like-- 'did you measure this right? Why is there a huge gap at the top?' I told him I was putting in a window sill and accounted for that and he rolled his eyes and told me GREAT, one more thing to buy! LOL!!! Okay, better run! I'll post pics when I get some progress! Today should actually make a dent in the way this thing looks. Finally.

Sorry I havn't been on latley but I've been popping in to read almost everyday. I've been watching the quail thread really hard and I have a major case of insomnia kicking my butt. I've been on a 3am-2pm sleep schedual and can get off it for the life of me. My "I want" list of birds keeps growing and rearanging and I keep have these great pen design ideas pop into my head, I think my body's throwing a fit because I can't carry out what I know so well. (sigh) My property manager shot down my plans for a quad of coturnix next spring so I'm looking for 1/4 acre or so and a building with water & electric to rent next fall

if I can find it for cheap. But anyway.. I hope everyone is doing well!

Yep, it's hard to be away from things you know and enjoy. I would have a hard time functioning without my birds I think, but then sometime I would welcome the break too. Some of this gets to be just a little too much some times.
I was working on my duck filter and split the tub where a fitting goes in. I think it will be ok but it really bothers me when things don't go as planned.
My people haven't shown up yet to get the chickens. I thought they would be here an hour or so ago. DH is wanting to go to town to eat chinese food so we can't wait forever.
I'm feeling particularly exhausted today; ready to just chill for the evening.

I have got to stay out of Atwoods. I went in for some wire and came out with the wire and 2 more chicks. I have no will power! Well, I have a little bit because I really wanted the one silky they had but I didn't get it. Anyway, I got a gold laced wyandotte and I'm pretty sure the other one is a red sex link. They had their chicks on sale for $1.59. So I told my husband that they were such a bargain that I couldn't leave without getting any. He just rolled his eyes.

Isn't it amazing how that works? I always have to look when I'm near chick bins.
I can sit here and look out at my chickens walking around the yard and it always makes me smile. They are really awesome little creatures. If I didn't have to provide food and shelter I'd probably have a thousand more.
Well my chick buyers called and cancelled for tonight. One guy had to work late. So they are planning to come tomorrow. I was really hoping to have the day free to get things done. Oh well. At least they called instead of leaving me to sit here wondering all evening.
But had I known earlier I might have started working on some project.
