This was a tack rack that I made years ago. We brought it in and hung it in our breezeway to use as a coatrack. I just put the decorative roosters above it tonight.
I love the roosters Ivy. Keckels, bobcats are very elusive, we have a ton of them around here and I've only ever seen 3 alive (wild, while doing my day to day business). They could watch you for an hour and you'd never no they were there.
Thanks Keckels! So far, I'm enjoying the coop- even though I'm still working on it! ha! It's just nice to see what I can do when I really want to!

Question-- hopefully someone can answer before I leave at 8:15 today... (I should have asked this before!) My new birds are supposed to come in today. They are out of the same flock as my cockerel came from- but not from the same breeding pens. Can they go into the same quarantine crate as my cockerel? I'm assuming it's okay.... ?? It's all from the same farm.

Yes, I love working with wood. I wanted to take woodworking when I was in school, but they would not let me because I was a girl! How times have changed. Anyway, I do what I can, but I am no master craftsman. The tack rack was made out of salvaged material, too. The dowels were an old closet rod or something and the back was part of the sides to an old waterbed. It is knotty pine, and some of the dark spots, like on some of the ivy leaves are actually knots in the wood. I woodburned the design on the back.
The roosters are some kind of metal. They are cast, but I don't think it's cast iron. They are not heavy enough. They must be some kind of pot metal or aluminum. Flea markets are a great place to pick up stuff like that.
Hawkeye, didn't you buy some kind of little bell for your coop? Have you put that up yet? Are you finding out that having chickens is a never ending-building/addition process? I predict that one of these days you are going to permanently convert part of your horse barn into a coop with pens for all your birds!

Keckles yes there are bobcats around Scott City. Before I moved here we had problems with bobcats taking our free range birds. Generally, though, when a bobcat was the culprit it would take one bird at a time and go consume it. It is possible it was more than one bobcat, such as a momma and some half grown kittens, but even at that, most of the litters have split up and young ones are taking off on their own now.
I wonder if you had several coyotes come through and snatch them up. Around here we have a lot of bobcats and coyotes. I saw a young bobcat just the other day when I was out deer hunting. Last night we had coyotes yeowling on all 4 sides of us. They weren't all that far away, either. Thank God for our great pyrenees dogs. Last night my hubby came in and said, "We need 3 dogs instead of 2." The dogs were working their buns off trying to run off all those coyotes.

Anxiouus to see what the trail cam picked up, besides me and my dogs.
I actually keep my chickens in Shallow Water, a little town that is almost the same as living in the country. I grew up on that homestead and though I had seen a coyote now and then, hadn't seen a bobcat. I keep mentioning my local "chicken guy", well, he just caught 2 bobcats, but I don't know what part of the county.
I'm currently checking our chicken laws, as it would be easier all the way around if they were in town for the winter.

keckels-I would say more than anything that you had a hunting pack of coyotes come in. That's what happened to me here in Southeast Kansas. Sure play heck on my marans. Anyway, hopefully your trail cam will catch them and you will know for sure.

You have a package on its way to your house from me, so be looking for it, I would think you would get it Friday.

surgery is never fun, and any more just seems to hurt lots more, suppose has something to do with age.
Now, took Arnie to the pawprints van for surgery. He doesn't need to be a daddy dog. I don't want him looking for females.
On craigslist I found an add, for young pullets. May have to go check them out, he will have some more RIR's, BO's and EE's. He is asking 6 bucks apiece. I can not raise them for that, and I'm needing more eggs to sell to support my hobby. I am totally sold out on eggs, and people still asking for more,
So, I think I will pick up a few to fill in the gap!! If I get any of the EE's, I will just put them with the lavender cockerel and might just hatch some from them this spring just for the heck of it.
These pullets are going to be about 7 months old, so prime time to buy a few and take advantage of a good price.
