Consolidated Kansas

I made another emergency run last night and got a couple more shots from the vet. Marshmallow got worse than ever. But I'm happy to say the steroids are working already and she is eating and drinking and acting much better. I have her and the pups in the house again. I was up again a good deal of the night. I think she her uterus just got too exhausted having all those pups over that many hours and she didn't get all the placenta out. Thus it caused an infection. The same thing actually happened to me. I had very long extensive labors. My shortest labor was 15 hours. I had 5 living kids, two miscarriages, and lost one twin but carried the second who was my 5th son. As soon as he was born, my uterus just laid down and died. They had to go in and remove the rest because my uterus had shut down.
I think the same thing happened to her. The uterus has it's limits. She got some oxytocin in the first round of shots but maybe it didn't finish cleaning her out. IT probably would have done her good to have surgery like I did to clean her out. I was at my wits end last night. I was so afraid I was going to loose her. She seems a bit confused yet. Must be the fever. But the pups are doing well. I really hate having dogs in the house. I have cats and chicks and a duck in here as well. I am thinking I need to just build a barn, move in, and let the animals have the house!

Ivy this is going to be one pampered pup by the time they get old enough to sell.

I had to laugh at that. I hadn't viewed a larger picture either and assumed that was your husband. Once I read that I looked at the pictures enlarged and it was obvious it was you. I guess we all just expect a guy to be holding up those dead animals heads!

Checoukan-- LOL!! I didn't look at the larger version of the picture! How funny, I just assumed it was your DH! Wow, what sportswoman you are! Bravo on your buck! Yeah, I didn't expect that to be yours!

I got a Silkie egg today!!! eeeeekk!!!! I'm so excited!! They are laying, they are laying!! Well... one of them is. ;)

Okay, so I have no nest box in there, so I'm going to make one out of a shoebox for them. Do you think that will do? They egg was super cold this morning when I found it. So I figure they laid it early this morning... or even laid it yesterday and I didn't notice. Although, I check them and feed them and play with them every day. But I suppose it could have gone unnoticed by me yesterday if I just wasn't paying attention. It is the first egg, though-- since there aren't any others in the pen. Since the egg was sooooo cold-- it's no good to incubate, right??? :( I put it on my counter top and held it up to my cheek and it was REALLY cold. That's a bummer. But I'll be sure to get on top of getting out there and checking more often until I figure out what time they are laying. Seymore has been laying right around 5pm each night... so I know when to get warm eggs from her now. We've been able to catch her in the act even, since we've figured out when she's doing it. I have 6 Seymore eggs now.

So, I'll post my Silkie egg here in a bit! OH!!! BTW--- I thought silkie eggs were WHITE??! This one is a light brown!! What's the deal with that???
