Consolidated Kansas

OH! OH! OH! The pups eyes are open. Now they will get fun and cute! I'm so excited. I guess that means more pictures soon.
I found a newly hatched chick in the Serama house. Sure wish there were several that hatched so I could put the mama in with a bunch of babies to be protected. They never survive out in the pen. I have tons of babies in here but I haven't had any luck putting other chicks with broody mamas in the past.

OH! OH! OH! We want to see! Pics soon please! We are in need of a "puppy fix!"

I was worried about my lone BCM that hatched last night, but he seems to be well and holding his own in the box with the bigger chicks. He is already bigger than the little rosecomb that is in there. That little rosecomb is pretty feisty, too. He seems to be able to hold his own very well with the other chicks, BUT I did find a lavender ameraucana that doesn't seem to be doing well. I took him out because he was starting to get trompled. I put him in a seaparate box and wouldn't ya know.. he sat right down in the water. He is now back in the incubator drying off.

Chooks-Maybe a picture of your Elvis would convince someone to take him. Birchens are so beautiful.

What an afternoon. I went out with the intent to sort guineas and the wind had come up so hard and fast and it was cold. I decided to heck with that. I need a warmer day. So then I hauled in the chicken statues and scrubbed them with a wire brush in bleach water to get the algae and stuff off of them. I really need to pressure wash them but we have the pressure washer drained for cold weather so the pump can't freeze.
So after that adventure I went to the basement and cleaned out all the button quail cages and added sand to their trays. I had trashed all their eggs a couple days ago so I was sure I would only have fresh eggs. I'm delivering some tomorrow. That lead to taking some trays out to be cleaned with the hose. They are filthy so they still aren't clean.
Then I decided I was going to get this big cage out of the basement that I'd made out of metal shelving. I asked DH 6 months ago to remove it and I am still waiting. So I took what I could off of it without dismantling it and flipped it up the stairs and outside. Then I went out and washed and bleached out the bottom of it. I am sure there was some residual mold in there from having birds in it last winter. I have it outside drying right now. Hopefully tomorrow I'll get it moved to the Serama house and separate my whites from the rest. (weather permitting of course)
Candace please be patient with me. I promise I'll get busy on the guineas.

Wow, our Kansas Poultry Swap page is growing by leaps & bounds! Tonya & I have been busy approving new members the last two days & it's still going. We're very excited about it & everybody keep sending people there. I have posted on several pet sites I'm on & other swap sites if I'm allowed, so we may get more people from those. As of a minute ago we now have 81 members & the requests keep coming in.

Well today the pups behaved themselves. So far the livestock panel gate just propped up there with the cinder blocks has worked. The chickens have kind of figured it out, at least most of them. I was surprised that even the roosters seem to be able to duck through those squares, so I have not cut them out any more. It's kind of a pain having it like that for me to get in & out but when I get a chance I'll get it fixed so it's more like a gate. DH doesn't seem to care about helping me with it at all, so I'll have to figure it out on my own, as usual.

Danz, that cage you were talking about made of metal shelving sounds kind of like what I want to make for my rabbits. I have one in the garage that I want to convert to 4 rabbit cages. It would work fine for smaller rabbits I think. I just have to wait till I get the other two stacking ones here & put together & then I'll work on that project. DH will probably have a fit, but I don't care. it sounds like I may be on my own for now with the rabbits, my rabbit buddy is having her own problems right now with some other things, so I may be driving to Hutch by myself next week.

If anyone from the Wichita area decides to go to Manhattan to get pullets let me know. I would like to have a few of those but I don't want to drive up there just for a few for me. I would go in on gas or whatever if someone else wants to go. I don't have a truck to haul a bunch of chickens back in, my old truck isn't able to make it that far.

I wish I could figure out some way to get those k-state pullets down to all of you, I'm only 20 minutes from the school farm, if that. But I don't have anyway to haul that many or the cash to front for them. Speaking of cash, stupid sale barn office people, I got my w-2s today and had my wife put them in the computer and they didn't even withhold enough for me to cover the e-file charges, I was counting on around $1100

, it's been a crappy day around here. I know my wife dosn't want to share much of her return because she wants to try and take a CNA class but I think shes going to let me in on a little for the birds because she knows how long I've been waiting and how much I've had my heart set on them.

rittert3, yeah I wish we could figure out a way for you to bring us some pullets too, that would be great. So far nobody wants to make the trip.

I think somebody, I can't remember who, mentioned that they would if enough people pitched in on gas and I think there are 4 or 5 of you down that way that want 2 or 3. I would definatly drive them to wichita for $10 a pullet including the cost of the bird, if I had the money to front.
