I'm feeling pretty crappy again. I feel good then it comes back. I guess I'll just keep taking the decongestant and hope it goes away. Hawkeye I checked her foot and it all appears perfectly normal. Her whole leg feels normal. I had a roo like that once and he just kind of stuck to himself and eventually got better. But the poor hen can't get away from the roosters. I hate having a bunch of chicken poop in the house to smell! That, she is doing quite normally! I put a little children's ibuprofen in her water earlier. I figured it might help reduce inflammation.
This is an awesome little hen. She is half silver laced wyandotte and half black cochin so she is a little black and white fluff ball. It's a really nice combination.
I took a pic of my gold laced cochin roo. He has muddy feet but he's still a pretty boy.

I like looking at ALL of them! I copied the last pics you posted so I could send a picture to our son in MN. He is a dog lover, too, and is the one who rescued Runt and gave him CPR.

OMGosh!! that roo is gorgeous!! His lacing is amazing! His feet are really well feathered too- from what I can see. I'm guessing you're keeping him? I know how you feel-- I think my decongestant is wearing down, I'm back to sniffling and coughing, sneezing. Sigh. I hear you on the cages in the house. Do you have a garage or something you can put her cage in? I have all of my kennels set up in my garage. Makes it so much easier, and no worries on the smell inside the house. I have bought several of those kennel cups that fit over the wires to feed and water. Keeps everything cleaner so they don't walk thru it and dump it. I did have to take my Dremmel tool to it and cut off a bit on two of the kennel cup's hooks-- they are the wrong spacing, but I just shave off a bit in the middle of each hook and I'm good to go. The first one I did, I cut off a hook entirely (to make it fit) and now the cup tilts. I got smarter on the others and realized the problem was only a matter of about 1/4 of an inch.

Perhaps your hen twisted her foot or something (temporary) while coming off the roost? I hope she feels better quickly!

Yep this is my favorite roo. I have others that are really pretty but he is my number 1 breeder. When they aren't muddy like they were this morning his feet and legs look like he has big fuzzy slippers and sloppy pajama pants on. I still need to sell a few roos but until I get them in their breeding pens I'm not sure how many I need to keep.

Well I took some photo's awhile ago, these are my rosecomb-bbred oe project that I thought I wanted to do. Well changed my mind and not going to continue. Hubby says I don't have enough space for them, sooo, guess they will hit the road. Takes several generations to get them right, ya know color comb, body type. Anyway thought you would like to see them. I use bbred-with blue/red to keep the color correctin the blue/red, so I also have some blue/red F1's in the mix too.

Oh, yes. You cross your rosecomb and oe for you F1's. Then you use your F1's back with a rosecomb. Those are F2's. You take the F2's back to Rosecomb, and get F3's. Then you take your F3's back to oe for color. If I did that right you should have F4's that look rosecomb in everyway, but carry the BBRed gene for color. I'm sure somebody will disagree with me. But, I try.

Danz- That cochin boy is beautiful!

Tweety- I bred blue dumbo rats for 3 years and sold all of my normals to the pet store as feeders. I mannaged them really well and only let my females breed every 3 months and had 3 tanks and a cage to keep them from breeding when I didn't want them too. I hated the constant squealing from the guinea pigs, esspecially when I was trying to help customers.

BTW, speaking of pet shops, I made a deal to sell any of my quail that die as young chicks to a local pet store for a quarter each. Not much but it's better than total loss.

Got me curious, what are they going to do with dead quail chicks? Feed them to snakes?
