Consolidated Kansas

Oh, I forgot to say that Atwoods in Derby just got in a big stock of VetRX if anyone is looking for any. They seem to be stocked up pretty well on chicken stuff right now.

Went to Orschlens this afternoon because they were having sales on various things we needed and we walked out with these two.

My daughter and her friend were fawning over the chicks. So now, Paprika and Sage will join the other "Spice Girls" - Nutmeg, Ginger, Cinnamon, Poppy, Pepper and Sesame.

The breakdown on breeds is as follows:

Nutmeg - RIR
Ginger - RIR
Cinnamon - RIR
Poppy - Barred Rock mix
Pepper - Silver-laced Wyandotte
Sesame - Amerucana

The newbies:

Paprika: New Hampshire Red
Sage: Australorp

They had Bantams, but they were all SRs and I didn't want to take the chance on getting a roo.

On a sad note, I don't think Pepper is going to make it. My vet across the street said it looks like she has some kind of systemic flaw that is causing her odd stools. We are trying another antibiotic, but it doesn't look good. The DD and DS understand that these things happen sometimes. I have told them Pepper will go to stay with their Grandpa Henry in heaven along with all the other animals that we have parted ways with over the years. The silver lining is that having the new chicks takes away some of the sting.

Ivywoods - I am still interested in a BCM, but we will have to figure out how meet up so that neither of us is drive way out of the way.

Now, I have a new problem. I need a bigger coop! Ha! I do have some plans for a larger ark that should only cost me about $135 in materials to build. That may be my summer project. I will post pics if/when I get going on it.

Signing off for the night/morning.

Chooks I didn't know you had peafowl. I'm learning something new all the time. I would like to have a white hen at some point just for some breeding. Shoot I don't even have my birds here yet and I'm planning ahead. That is what gets me in trouble.
So I've been pricing buildings and DH is now saying he can build me some. The big flaw with that of course is getting it done. I'm still waiting for help with 3 year old projects. I get more useless all the time. I work one day then have to take a week off to recover. It stinks.
I've got to get in gear around here. I am so far behind in projects. And the duck is increasing my work load by leaps and bounds. I think I am going to have to confine him some more which I hate to do. He has become a cat food fiend now and doesn't want to eat his normal food. Plus he keeps running to the hallway where the cat food is, which means cleaning up all through the house. Geez! Maybe I should get busy designing some small sized diapers. If it were warm I'd make him go outside with me while I do chores.
So I ordered some bottles so I can sell smaller amounts of the antigen to other testers. Hopefully I'll get some of it sold. I really need to get my own birds done right away. It's just such a big job and I want to do it on a nice warm day when I have some help. Just catching and tagging is an extra job.

chickendanz-Are you an NPIP tester? I keep thinking about getting it done with my flock and then I go on the website for Kansas and can't figure out where to start. Is there somewhere I call to sign up for testing?

I swear I answered this once but it didn't show up. Yes I am a certified tester. I could do your birds cause you aren't far from me. There are only a couple certified testers in about a 4 county area and the other one lives near me. Send me a PM and we can talk about it.

Hey everyone. Tried to have a baby shower yesterday, but my heart broke for my baby girl when no-one but her grandma showed up. It's pretty crappy of everyone to RSVP and not show. She texted several people and one had to babysit, a couple had to work, one was moving, etc... I guess that's just indicitive of the 18 year old age range. Sigh... Glad my mom got to come up from Inman though and see her while she was still prego.

Took my mom to TSC to pick up the bluKote and VetRx (found some! Also grabbed come DE!), but anyways she was enamoured with the chicks in the bins. They had Minorca chicks. I hadn't ever heard of those before. Very cute! They also had some baby ducks that I had to resist. Mom kept insisting on getting me a couple chicks, but surprisingly I talked her out of it. If I didn't have them arriving in a couple day - i would not have been able to do so!

I also picked up a dimmer switch (Thank you HeChicken for the idea!) so I can control the heat lamp a bit more without moving it up and down!

It's crazy windy here today. Very beautiful outside, though!

That is such a shame. That is very hurtful. Just shows you how unthoughtful people that age group can be. Of course that can be true in any age group.
Not to mention the expense and work you put into it!!
That wind is insane outside. It seems like it took me twice as long to do my chores. I had another puppy get picked up while ago. I'm down to two girls being picked up now and I must say ready.
I need to get back out and work while I can.

Hey there - I got some of those minorcas at TSC. Love love love them! They look like little penguins :)

Not cool. I certainly hope they someday realize how abyssmal their behavior is. So very sorry for all of you: when DD hurts, Mom hurts, so none of you came out of it unscathed.

I so hope the 3 generations ate ALL the cake!
