Marc Austin-- so funny!!! I mean, wow, that would have scared me too, but it's funny after the fact. Those horses are beautiful, there's no way I could afford them. I'm thinking what they must cost to feed them! I feed my horses pretty well, and I think they would make me go broke! I bet they need a pretty high protein %. But if I did have one I think I'd have to keep their tails and manes in braids all the time with tail covers. I have a boy now that has an insanely loooong tail. I hate to say, but I used to put his tail in covers, and they do work, but they wear out fast when it's an every day thing. So now?? Horse people will cringe-- but I cut his tail and keep it up off the ground that way! LOL

I had all of these posts Multi'd and my mom came over to use my computer so she could get her email and she clicked my browser CLOSED! Argh! So I lost everything. So I'm doing this by memory..

Danz, beautiful picture of your Tyggy! I hope she will be okay. I understand your attachment, they are just family, is all. That is amazing that you are catching so many mice at a time.

Trish, what a long day yesterday for you! It's too bad your GD was cranky too. But I'm sure it's tough on her not having both parents close at hand. I'm so sorry about your son's GF, it doesn't sound like she is doing well at all. That is terrible news. I was just thinking about her today! I'm glad you updated us, I'll be sure to pray for her.

Tweety- love your new puppy! Adorable dog, and looks like he's going to be a big one! Hope you're hanging in there and feeling well.

I went to Valley Feed and Seed today and bought some leg bands. This is because I just need them fast. I plan on buying ABA bands to get my birds in "official" bands later. But for the purpose of getting them tested and the forms sent in on time-- I didn't think I had enough time. Maybe I did.. I don't know. I hate to feel rushed. These were cheap enough, and they can be used again and again. I need to get perm bands for them, or I can just leave these on. I'm going to do all of my record keeping in pencil so I can erase the numbers if/when I get the other bands and get those put on them.

Here's a funny--- I bought a shampoo I've never heard of for dogs. It's called "Sho Sno Whitener Shampoo" and it says "Whiter than White' and Moisturizes Too!". I'm going to give it a test run on one of my birds (one I'm not taking to the show--in case it messes them up!) and see if it brightens them up. I don't know if this is "blueing" or not. The shampoo is a deep purple color. It says to shampoo your "dog"-- and leave in for 2 minutes and then rinse off. Says it "Highlights and enhances all shades of brown, black, red or gray coats, providing the optimum in color contrasts. So, I'm hoping that my grungy splash birds (I won't use this on my blues and blacks) will brighten up and get rid of any yellow. We shall see!! Wish me luck! I was told not to use blueing on Splash birds-- so I'm hoping this will work instead, since it doesn't say it's blueing and it is supposed to work on lighter colors. I just want dazzling bright and clean/clear colors on them!

If this doesn't work, then I'm probably going to go ahead and buy blueing and try it out on another bird that isn't going and see how bad it is or if it really will work. Maybe they are Debbie Downers and just don't want me to show up with flashy Splash's.... or maybe they are really trying to be helpful and don't want me to "paint" my birds purple! LOL

I think I'll check with Bluestem, and if they don't have it order from your link. Thanks.

Sharol
I found this one at the stoplight store but they have them on Amazon and on the victor weg site. There is a much cheaper version made by someone else but when reading about it I don't think the mechanism is as good. Sounds like it doesn't work as well.
Here is a link to the Victor one.

The second link becomes a lot cheaper the more you order. I would seriously think about ordering a whole case for myself just to cover all the houses. So far I am really impressed! Be sure to get one with a window in it because you do want to be able to see inside.

Sharol, if you get to Bluestem and happen to walk by an ice cream freezer could you take note of the price for me? We are considering driving up there this weekend but it's 2 hours away.

Hawkeye, I'm curious to see how your shampoo works out. I don't know anything about bathing birds but it does seem logical that if the shampoo is purple that it would be along the same lines as blueing. Blue and red make purple. Why aren't you supposed to use blueing on birds? I wouldn't think it would hurt them, heck, we used it on baby diapers all the time and it didn't hurt the babies a bit. :) When you said Valley Feed, I'm assuming you mean in Valley Center??

The horse is so pretty, I can't imagine the work involved in taking care of horses too. Right now I'm already outside at least twice per day taking care of chickens. That's a big time committment even.

Danz, that's awesome about the mice but even better about your cat. That's wonderful news that she seems better today.

Hawkeye95 - I used to go to a lot of dog shows as a spectator, and what I learned from a Great Pyrenees breeder that she bathed her dogs in Ivory Dish Soap and the rinsed them out in vinegar to keep them white. Not sure how chickens would handle either the dish soap or the vinegar, but from there on that is how I bathed my late Great Pyrenees.

Danz, I ran out of time earlier, but I did want to say I'm sorry about your cat & hope she gets better. It's so hard when your pets get old & start having health problems, it's so heartbreaking to see them suffer.

Well I found out this afternoon that I'm going to get two of the crank-out windows tomorrow for my new breeder coop, so I'm thrilled about that. That will make it so nice to be able to open the windows & not have rain be able to get in there & still have a nice breeze come through. It didn't work out to get the same kind for the front of the coop. My DH says he's not willing to totally have to go back & redo the framing he has done all across the front of the coop & take the OSB off the front that he put up. I wish I had known she had these windows in the beginning & then I could have planned for them, that would have been wonderful to have crank-outs for the whole thing, but that's the way it goes. I will just have to use the wood windows that I had gotten for the front four & hinge them It won't be as convenient & more work, but it's what the original plan was. I will need to get the windows out of the shed & start working on them to get them ready. They need some paint scraped off the glass & some new putty put on, so it will take a little work to get them ready to use. I don't have the hinges yet or the hinge thing to keep them open with either, that will be another trip to Lowe's for those things.

I may have to order one of those mouse traps for use in my garage. We have so many cats around here they have no chance out where the cats can get them, but I don't let the cats in the garage, so sometimes mice get in there & that is where my feed is kept. We usually don't have many since I have 14 cats outside right now, but some of them are just little kittens & aren't really into their mousing duties yet. The adults do really well though, I see them with mice all the time.

I'll let you know how it works! I'm wondering if it's a mild blueing since it is a deep purple color. We have a Valley Feed and Seed here in Wichita on Meridian. :) These birds aren't white-- they are splash, so they have a light blue base. Which is why I was told not to use blueing on them. But I figure... maybe it will still brighten them up anyway, even though they aren't white?

I wash first with Palmolive and then a Puppy Flea and Tick shampoo (to get rid of mites if there are any). This shampoo would come after the first sudsing. Can't wait to see!

That's great about the windows! I have a Q for you! Someone said they tried to message me on Facebook, but they are not 'friends' with me. (it's about birds) How do I get their message? I tried going in and finding it, but I don't know where to look. I know you are always telling people how to do that. Thanks!

Hawkeye, on your FaceBook page go to the left side of the page where you will see messages, click on that & you will see the category Other & that is where you will find messages from people who are not your friends on FB. People usually don't think to look there, so I have to remind people all the time about it.

THANK YOU! I found it-- among a few other messages I had no idea I had received! I never knew to look there before! Now I know!

Ah yes the purple show shampoo, used it to bath show wethers, when my DD showed goats. Sure made the white sparkle!!!
What about a light blue base? Would it brighten it or mess it up? I'm going to give it a shot on one of my roosters that won't be going. It is a deep purple shampoo. I sure hope it takes out the yellow! We shall see! So neat that it worked great on goats! Funny all the uses we find for this stuff! LOL
