I have chickens about 1/1/2 yrs old that I incubated 7 of their eggs, 6 hatched. They are now about 6 months old and I want to consolidate the 2 coops into a single large one. How do I do this without them fighting and killing each other? They free range in the yard together but eat in "shifts" and older ones chase younger away from treats. They are laying in the same coop but roost in their separate coops.

Are they going into a new coop for all of them (2 coops going into a third)

If so, take them off their roosts after dark, put them on their new roosts. When they wake up their going to go ‘Whoa!!!! This is new.’and focus on what the heck is going on more than who’s in with them. Neutral ground.

going into one large coop...super cool answer!!!

I did exactly this when I combined five 3-4 year olds with eight 6-7 week old chicks. It worked amazingly well.

Might have to keep them locked in the new coop for a few days or more so they don't try to go roost in the other 2 coops.
I have a large 10x30 chicken run I'm putting around the coop & plan to keep them sequestered for a few days before I let them free range. That way maybe they will go back to the new one, plus the old ones will be gone.
