Hey guys!
my quails have all been fairly quiet, I have 2 male to one female but I figured because the female is laying at least an egg a day and besides a baldspot not bloodied that she is okay with it. None of them fight, although the “head” male will mount the other male. But now the two males appear to be calling all the time? It’s only when the room is warmer and even when I cover the cage with a towel It goes on for 10-15 min. The female has a box with afake plant she can “escape” to and they won’t follow her in, so she has that. Do the males think that she’s gone? I tried separating them but they would act depressed, and refuse to eat or drink and warble for the other two. Are they unhappy? It’s 16 sq foot so I thought that would be enough to make up for the gender imbalance.

I vote that they are unhappy.
I find that my males only crow/complain when they are mad.
Mad about being by themselves.

Can you not get more females?

I will try! How many? If I cannot order females, should I just separate or sell one of the males so it’s only 1m/1f?

I assume you're talking about Japanese quail. One male is enough to service at least 3 females. Two males to one female is way too much. Normally, the female would be overbred and end up severely damaged from the two males. I've had one male beat up 5 females by himself. It might be that you have an agile female and/or older males. I would get rid of one male and replace him with one to three females. Check Craigslist for quails.

Myshire Farm has come through for me twice, egg-wise. Depending on where you live, you might even give Craigslist a look for live birds.
okay, my plan is to look for three females this weekend, Monday I will cull a male, solitary confinement for the female until she recovers her feather loss, and hope the remaining male doesn’t freak out while I try to get the new girls
