Hey Everyone,

I've got a Buff Orpington named Rosie who sticks by me constantly rather than the flock because my male duck loves to seek her out. She loves it when I pick her up and carry her around from garden to garden and we dig and she finds all the bugs. A couple times when Im carrying her she's pooped on me but when I put her down there's no poop. Just a little clear liquid with little to no odor. I have seen her poop normal as well while she's on the ground. I checked her vent and it's clean. No redness or swelling from what I can tell. She eats plenty and looks alert. I've also noticed her vent it constantly moving and I've even heard it squeak a couple times. She'll roost on my shoulder when we sit and I can hear her belly (crop?) Gurgling like it's digesting. Does all of this sound normal or should I be treating her for something?

I'm pretty sure it's normal. I've noticed it in my chickens, and I've done my own extensive research (completely based on my experience and logic) and have figured out that they do that when mating/ready to mate.

When a hen spreads out her wings and crouches down (ready to mate), her vent is constantly moving in and out and making those "squeaks" as you mentioned. I think there is nothing to worry about if there is no redness or swelling, and if everything seems to be fine.
