SPUD ALL GROWED UP

Sallies first brood had a single American game x dominique out of a brood starting out as 15 at hatch. That cross turned out to be a pullet and she is the only survivor from that brood. Name was designated SPUD.

She grew well and tried to keep up with flock even when they flew across patches of heavy grass and 300 foot stretches along driveway.

Spud was quite easy to tame.

As a result she got stuck on scooter trips to educate children.

She also kept with her mother during much of the egg laying process.

She hung with Eduardo during part of day once Sallie began brooding cohort 2.

She grew into what you see now. She will be go to a poultry show under classification of dominique where she will be DQ'd but will still give a showing. She is well trained and will be part of Missouri dominique breeding program since her father was of a unique genetic background.

EDUARDO A VERY BAD BOY

Today a dominique x California grey cockerol got sassy with Eduardo. Eduardo launched an attack sending cockerol on a run with Eduardo in pursuit. Chase went back and forth across Eduardo's range for a good 30 minutes. Eduardo's speed and endurance is greatly in excess of what cockerol could muster enabling Eduardo to flog and harass cockerol to exhaustion. Eduardo had cockerol on ground apparently after scoring lucky lick that disoriented cockerol. Eduardo would have finished him off if I did not intervene as by time I picked the boy up he was laying on his back with eyes swollen shut. Even six hours later cockerol is unable to to stand. Eduardo will soon have to be penned up as he seems to be getting aggressive again and attempting to drive off all adult sized males. Eduardo seems to be showing no interest in ladies so they are not immediate cause of heightened aggression.

MOLT PROGRESSION FOR EDUARDO WITH SOME GAPS

2011 October 22: Eduardo nearly has first full cock feathering in place. All of his eclipse hackle feathers have been shed and breeding hackles coming in fast. He is nearly restored in respect to full flight capacity but good looks and full insulatory value will not be realized until late November / early December.

A problem with photographs is having a standardized background. Camera needs to be held in same position.

MOM VISITS CAUSING ALL SORTS CHANGES FOR FRONT PORCH FLOCK

My mother has been with us for a week now helping out with family addition. When wife and I are out, mom gets a little busy and cleans, rearranges, and hides stuff. The front porch flock suffered as well. When we pulled in tonight, Scoob (dog) was sitting on porch which was clean but no chickens were immediately evident.

Upon closer inspection it was evident the birds had settled down for night on a chair.

They were packed together and much lower to ground than I am comfortable with.

Better, more visualling appealing alternative will be in place by winter. That pumpkin is in deep doo-doo once chickens get a look at it during daylight.

Reason for mom's protracted visit. Baby Trueman, future chicken chaser, born just a few days ago.

How is your wife doing.

Trueman is in a neonatal intensive care unit still. Having a little problem with platelet counts. Exposure to light should stop tomorrow. Wife home but we want boy home as well. Extremely stressfull commuting 35 miles daily each way to be with him. Wife stays all day and nearing limit for this arrangement.

He'll be home soon causing all the other normal sleepless nights. Good you have Grandma there to help you both.
