Construction question. Building my @Aart style roosts and poop boards :D

I am attaching this poopboard/roost inspired by this:

I'm trying to figure out how to screw together these L brackets. Do I go the black arrows or the red arrows to attach the brace.

Do you have a pocket hole jig available? Kreg makes a Nice one it works great for stuff like this and for basic construction.

I used 2 or 2.5" deck screws....and drilled a clearance/pilot hole in angle piece.

Thank you! I went through all my scraps and found everything I need! I'm doing one 5 ft long and one 4 ft.

My handyman ( aka dh) is giving me a hard time about putting this together. Now, normally i just let him take over and build things however he wants . but he's no carpenter. And ive been doing alot of research ( youtube) to learn structural sound building.

So I'm stucking to my guns about how i want this done. And praying it works out . lol

Dh cutting the braces...he says. This isnt going to work. I dont know how to cut angles
Me: well according to what I read as long as both ends match up to 90 degrees it will fit.
Dh grumbles and cuts . puts it in the L bracket and it doesnt line up. He kind of gloats.
I look at his saw and its set to 43 degrees so I tell him 43+43 is 86 and we havr a 90 degree angle to fit...
He says ...it doesnt neef to be perfect.

Ugh yea....it does.

Why not just make your 90 and then lay your angle board across it and mark it on the inside.
