Construction question. Building my @Aart style roosts and poop boards :D

Everyone settled in for the night. A little more raucous than normal. And 4 of the pullets are still sleeping in top of the boxes. I'm hoping its just age. Eventually those will be external.

I'm realizing I have more room for more chickens now.

I'm trying to figure out how to screw together these L brackets. Do I go the black arrows or the red arrows to attach the brace. View attachment 1764123

Red into black. Drill a pilot hole first, use a bit that is just slightly smaller than the thickness of the screw, so your wood won't split.

That was my first suggestion .

Why not just make your 90 and then lay your angle board across it and mark it on the inside.

If you have a perfect 90* then two 45’s is fine... if you don’t have a perfect 90* on your L, then scribing the angles will give you a perfect fit. I work with very imperfect materials on un-level surfaces always. To be 100% truthful if you really want “stronger” you go with nails over screws for sheer strength on the lower joint... but really, it’s a chicken coop, and they aren’t *that* heavy hopefully

Might want to get a piece of vinyl to fit...easy to scrape off and will protect the wood.

My logic was that a 45 degree on both sides would force that L to be a 90. And even if it pushed it out the tension would bring more stability. As it is now. Im sure will have to replace the first 2 brackets or at least the braces.

Miraculously, when I left dh alone to put the 2nd set together, he figured out he had to set the angle on the saw exactly. And check it before each cut after. The 2nd set were perfect.

I have to give my guy mad props.

If it were left to me id still be planning. Lol

I can be too caught up in every detail. I think we balance eachother well.
