Gotta love family building projects! Our horse barn/chicken coop was a family building affair with my FIL flying out from Oregon and DH coming home on leave from NC (he was living away at the time). Then it was just a horse barn, I converted the unused feed/tack room when I got the chickens. Eventually I'll get rid of the horses and they can have the whole thing (all part of the world domination plan for my flock, lol), you should see my husband's face when I talk about how many more birds I could have with the whole thing to use - it did help to remind him how much cheaper they are to feed and keep than horses, and unlike the ungrateful horses at least the hens give us something in return.

When we moved here and we saw the horse stall out back attached to the back of the barn we both said chickens! Finally 3 years later we converted it. We left the horse trough and surprise the girls lay their eggs there not the brand new laying boxes! Lol.
