Contaminated distilled water and now egg smells bad

Hello! I recently started incubating my eggs (day 5) and about a day or two ago the incubator started smelling off, but I was afraid to do anything to the incubator like cleaning it. However, I finally decided to clean it after reading that it’s probably because the water was contaminated. I smelled the water and it seemed like it was the issue. I cleaned the incubator quickly and put the eggs back in, but I realized the eggs also give off a foul/bad smell. Is it a good idea to gently wipe it or leave the eggs be?

Another question I would like to ask is if I should candle the eggs and toss the unviable ones out now. I bought shipped eggs and it took 4-5 days to arrive, and it’s been 5 additional days since I set the eggs. I’m wondering if the unsavory smell could be related to bad eggs in the incubator.

No, I bought them from a seller who has their own flock. It took around 4-5 days to ship. It’s technically day 9-10 now, so I will take your guys’ advice and candle.
Shipped eggs is always a gamble. I incubate a lot of eggs from eBay and unfortunately some sellers don't care and send old rotten eggs. I hope this isn't the case with your eggs.

Oh wow I hope not. I also bought mine from eBay. The seller did say he collected the eggs right before shipping but I can only take his word for it.

My best advice is read reviews. Air cell size is a good way to tell the eggs age. I once got an order I won in a eBay auction for a decent price. I wish I would of read reviews before bidding. The eggs had massive air cell. I still put them in the incubator and 3 days in started weeping and smell absolutely horrific. I was very disappointed. I know for a fact the 3 days they spent in shipment didn't do that to them.

That’s awful. Yeah I try my best to read reviews, although I did candle before putting the eggs in and the air cells were tiny.

That’s awful! I did candle before setting and the air cells were tiny, although 2 had detached air cells. I will definitely take up your advice on reading reviews, especially for websites where anybody can sell.

Oops sorry!

I ended up replying twice. It’s probably because I refreshed and I’m on phone.
