This is probably out there, but since we are always coming up with new ideas...

Contest: Post pictures and any pertinent information of the MOST RANDOM, strange, laughable, or ridiculous junk/garbage/recyclables you have used for your chickens. Any way, shape, or form.

Contest ends 2-10-10, to be judged by ....

Prize: mad props from your peeps.

AN EXAMPLE:

Friday I found a perfect condition microfiche machine sitting on top of a bunch of boxes next to the dumpster. It had NO DUST and that *new technology* smell. I decided it would make an awesome brooder box or nesting box for the banties. Since I could flip it upsidedown, and keep the supports in, I decided it would provide an extra "safety net" for the heat lamp.

The trash:

Disasembled and inside ridges bent down:

The alphabet for the chicks to read:

Installed brooder box, immediately occupied by an adult rooster who chased out all the chicks and pretended to lay an egg for the banties:

I still need to figure out the best way to utilize the microfiche mirror and reflector glass. Perhaps to reflect back heat? It also has a plexiglass sheet that may work best for a wind gaurd. I dunno.

EDITED: I also wonder if the bulb is usable...it is REALLY strong, but older than I am....

HAVE FUN!

Mannnn... you have just created my favorite post! I don't pay for ANYTHING except good hatching eggs! The rest is thrown together recycled stuff and bowls from thrift shops. Did you know old heavy crocks from crock pots are good feeders? They can't tip them over and you throw a chunk of rock or brick in the middle and they don't scratch out the goodies, they just eat. You all will fall down laughing when I start posting pics to this thread! Just get ready... I'm at work and it is dark outside, the only two reasons I have not already posted a pic!

Well.....I don't know if this applies, but I think it is funny. My new 'baby roost'. Gotta love those mini traffic cones. And at 6 for $1, I consider them almost FREEEEEEEEEEE.

OK- not so random as the two posted....but I was pretty happy to be able to reuse materials to make a duck coop up at my weekender block of land.

The metal cage was protecting a new lathe my employer bought, and I just had to pay for it to be transported up into the country where my block is. The wire fencing I got from work to when they re-did some fencing. The rubber floor mat tiles were also from work.

All these items would have been thrown into the rubbish by my employer if I hadnt reused them.

I dunno but I was out taking pictures of the critters today and THIS was one of the pix I uploaded to my computer:

REALLY makes my yard look like a junk pile IMO.

The reason is, that's directly behind the house mostly out of sight from everyone but me. All the junk gets put back there for uh, "storage"

One of these days that heat pump is gonna need servicing and I'm not gonna be able to FIND it!

Those old tv carts with wheels, usually folks try to sell at garage sales and they end up being free in their driveway?

My chickens LOVE them, so I gather them and throw them away after they get old and fall apart. lol

Also I made a small coop out of a free desk that I found in someones drive with a big ol free sign on it, for my 2 girls when I lived in town.

Well, it looks like there wasn't much interest last week (superbowl?) so I think our only two contestants Duckfromoz and Nellabean are our winners!
