Well, it is a good idea. I have about 4 old (big) pieces of mirrow hanging around. We don't get nearly the cold that you do, but the winter months are pretty dark. Anything to bring a bit of light into the coop is a great idea. And right now I have my hen house 4th wall swinging up during the day on the north wall. It is pretty dark in there because I haven't put a window in the south wall yet. This may be a way to bring some daylight in to it when it is open. Thanks for the idea!

Your welcome. When I put the window in I used foam expanding insulation around the edges to seal it and, be forwarned, the chickens ate it.

I dunno maybe you have already experienced this, but I had not till I was scrambling to get them away from the foam.

Hey Tiki, I just realized. I know that I have a white leghorn right now. (Since the contest) He is a little bit gangly at 9 weeks now. Too bad he is a he! I am not sure I will be able to keep the one if our city council gets their say.

When I got them, I was planning on meat birds. And that will likely happen to some. But it is harder now that I know them so much mroe intimately since researching them all for this contest..... Ah well, one of the less pleasant side of effects of knowing where your food comes from when you are an Omnivore and not a vegetarian.

I placed their brooder (wading pool) in a room that we are midway into remodeling. (My dad has had some health problems, so it is in transition) Anyway, I had some of that foam insulation with the mylar on the outside on one of the walls where an exterior door used to be. They had pecked away every bit of it where the PVC mesh around the pool came in contact with the wall.

All of my well meaning family and friends kept pushing the pool back against the wall.

Thinking they were helping, of course. I kept pulling it back out when I noticed. Each time it got pushed in, a different part of the wall touched. So much for only feeding them organic food.

I've heard so many wonderful things about McMurray, and will now add my own experience and give you another: Murray McMurray Hatchery is the best! They just sent me a pair of their 2009 collector's mugs for scoring the same as ArizonaDesertChicks, even though Arizona was the real winner as she got her results in before me.

Thank you, Bud Wood and McMurray!
