One of our young chicks was attacked by a racoon who broke into a coop and the next morning she was badly damaged but acting as if nothing had happened. She was "bright, alert, and responsive" so I took her into the vet clinic where I work as a vet tech. As I walked in the receptionist said "Katie, you are supposed to bring your lunch, but you are supposed to cook it first". The dr. put the chick under and put her back together with over 50 stitches. She put a piece of vet wrap on her neck to cover all the stitches, which made the chick hold her neck out really straight. For this reason, we named her, "Pez" because she looked like a pez dispenser!
