Not sure when they got here they where cold many 9 cracked and wet and Very dirty i used a scratch pad to take off the poop and mud .
why where the cracked ones grey inside ?
thats when we first got them some looked like the yolks and whites had been blended together ?
i think they just got way too cold the 4h kids wont be happy but there is nothing i can do.
the quail eggs came from pensilvania all ok
the turkey eggs washington ,
the postal worker had them on the side and the box was plainly marked this side up fragile and all so i can not really totally blame the lady i got them from other then how dirty they where . but grey inside ? Hmmmmm and they all had many poors so ?

hers did fine according to her web page .

Ill try again but maybe with driving to portland instead of the postal mail.

Sounds like they froze. Even if it was warm at ship point & delivery point they still could have traveled through some very cold weather. Dangerous to get shipped eggs this time of year.

You also do NOT want to wash hatching eggs. This drives any bacteria on the shell inside through the pores. I occasionally wipe mine very gently with a damp cloth if they are extremely filthy, otherwise they go in the bator just as I find them. I've never seen a chicken wash an egg, or any bird for that matter, & they sometimes get VERY dirty by the time they hatch.

Scratch pads really aren't a good idea either as they scratch the protective coating off the shell & let bacteria in as well.

Ill have to get some more if i can i will call her i do nto blaim the lady who sent them .
i blaim the postal carrier they did nto even read the package Marked well i mean it would take a lot not to see what she had written on it .
she packed them very well and i think weather wise we did have a sneak cold storm come in . but like i said i do not blaim the lady i got them from Trust me if i did i would bash her and Post a blog LOL .

but she did everything right she did not wash them and did send them asap she got them so nothing in this is her fault .

I'm betting they froze. Nothing anyone, even the PO, can do if the weather is just too cold. I would suggest waiting until warmer weather to try reshipping, or if you can't wait, see if she can add a 72 hour heat pack (I think someone told me Wal-Mart carries them pretty cheap) to keep them from freezing if you pay the dollar or 2 that they cost.

Here's my story....

I made sure my incubator was all clean and at perfect temp and humidity, I have 41 eggs, I turned them at least twice a day and all was well, then I put them in lockdown.... I came down to check the incubator and I realize it was unplugged. I had no idea how long it was unplugged for. So I hurry and plug it in again and I hope all is well. But all was not well, I had no chicks. It was awful.

Sorry to hear that. At least when you try again, you won't make that mistake again.

Good luck,
Deb
