I do not think she plans on reshipping. I have to buy new eggs again.

the kids are just horrified and down you should see some of the areas they made up for their turkey or 2 LOL

If she isnt willing to resend eggs then I would not go with her as a seller again. I didnt read thru all of this thread so I may have missed it but did you buy from ebay? or something or from a byc'er. I know most people put disclaimers about them not being responsble for hatches becuase of human error after the eggs leave them , but eggs should never have lots of poo on them , I will send out an occasional egg with a small spec here and again if I dont have alot of eggs but never really dirty ones. Also I have read and heard from many places that scrubbing the eggs just forces dirt and bactiria into the shell so isnt advised. Ether set them or dont but dont scrubb them , you can if you wish wash them with warm (not hot or cold water but thats up for debate as well.

I always take pix when I get a bad shipment of eggs whether it be from poor packaging or poor handling or just bad eggs. I then notify the shipper of what I received. Depending on their response I may or may not get eggs from them again. If they give me an attitude about it they definitely don't get repeat business. If they offer to reship at my expense for a PO issue I will often accept depending on availability of funds right then or ask them to delay shipment until I have funds. If they offer to reship at their expense I almost always agree, unless I am out of bator space right then & then I may ask them to delay shipment until space frees up. If it's an obvious error made by the shipper & I don't want to take a chance on their eggs again I typically ask for a refund. I have only ever asked for a refund twice. Both times it was granted because I had overwhelming evidence that it was the shipper's error.

Really don't go with her again there ie never any excuse for for eggs like that. I got a batch like that once 50 poop covered eggs some with so much that the shell under it was soft and rotting. I got 1 baby out of 50 eggs. The person never apologized never sent more nothing. I did not persue it but I will v. Get anything from that person again

I would have asked her why the eggs were so dirty. I get some yucky eggs from my pens on occasion (tells me it's time to clean pens) but I always at least wipe the eggs off either with a dry paper towel if I catch it while it's still wet or with a barely damp cloth if it has already dried. I don't wipe off every speck, but I at least make it so I myself am not opposed to setting the eggs. Small smears of poop or dirt will not hurt the eggs, but eggs totally covered in poop or dirt can carry bacteria into the bator & cause chicks to die. My chickens & quail are all in breeder pens with wire floors, so unless my pans don't get emptied often enough or a bird drops a load right on top of an egg my eggs usually stay pretty clean. Even though I give my girls a nest box in each pen they usually decline to use them & I find most of my eggs rolling around the wire floor. I get more broken eggs than dirty ones because the goofy birds step on the eggs & they crack against the wire.

My ducks, however, are another story. Once Spring arrives they will be in pens on the ground. They have a tendency to drop their eggs wherever they are standing when they get the urge to lay. This means I often find eggs in the mud next to the pool. Those are a bit harder to keep clean & I often have to take a damp cloth to them to get them even close to clean. Perhaps her turkeys are like my ducks & tend to lay in the mud.

Hi, my worst hatch was under my favorite hen some 4 years ago. I had a small plot of land on which i kept a mixture of chickens, ducks and geese. My favorite chicken went broody and was sat on 15 eggs, an attentive mother only leaving the nest once a day for around 5 mins to poop eat and drink. About 2 weeks into her sitting, 3 youths broke onto my land and stole several eggs, fortunatly they did not disturb my broody as she was in a seperate coop. I caught these boys on my land with hands full of eggs, was pelted with said eggs, having contacted the police i was told that it was my word against theirs (didn help that one was related to a local bobby) they warned the youths off but that was it. The following night all of my coops were broken into, more thann half of my birds were stolen, several were slaughtered, as for my broody, they scared her off the nest and shut the door so that she couldnt get back in. Cruelty of the worst kind, the police still did nothing except take some photos and tell me that they probably would never find the culprates!!!! My broody went strait back on her eggs as soon as her coop was open, she managed to hatch 2 of her 15 eggs. I became a target after this and in the end gave my entire flock to a local land owner who tried to help me set up some sort of deterant, unfortunatly this didnt work. I moved not long after. I know live in a much nicer area and am raising a few back yard chickens, i do however miss my large mixed flock though.

Is this contest over? If not, here's my worst hatch story!

I had a hen named Belle. She had been brooding eggs for a while, and I was hearing peeps coming from the shells. I knew they were gonna hatch! The next morning, I went outside, and found one chicken hanging by it's head, from a hen's mouth. Another one had gotten mashed flat by Belle's foot and was crushed. Three others were strewn around the pen with the backs of their heads ripped open. There were 3 survivors, but one was stepped on. She was the prettiest of the hatch, with beautiful golden-yellow down. She passed away in my hand.

The last remaining chicks became my buddies. I named them Butterball and Blue. They followed me everywhere. They were like my kids. I took care of them. One day, we introduced them to the flock. They were old enough. I went to the pen one morning, and found blue and yellow feathers everywhere! Butterball and Blue were gone. I cried so hard. I was so angry! I knew exactly what had got them, too: the neighbor's cat, Murray, had dragged their bodies into the yard.

Not one of those chicks from that hatch survived. That was a horrible hatch.
